Full Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Coordinate and oversee school-age programming, including End Zone (before, after, and all-day care) and Camp Wannago (summer day camp) at the YMCA. This position is responsible for the overall quality, safety, staffing, administration, and daily operations of school-age programs while creating engaging, developmentally appropriate experiences for children and building positive relationships with families and staff.

The School Age Director works collaboratively with the WeeFolks Childcare team to support consistent practices, communication, and program quality across the organization. During the school year, this position will provide additional support to WeeFolks, assisting with program needs and other operational priorities as needed.

GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Oversee the daily operations of End Zone and Camp Wannago programs, ensuring programming is safe, engaging, organized, and consistent with YMCA standards.
Plan and coordinate End Zone and Camp Wannago programming, including themes, field trips, special activities, schedules, supplies, and staff assignments.
Assist with onboarding school age staff.
Schedule, supervise, and evaluate school-age staff. Ensure appropriate staffing levels and staff-to-child ratios are always maintained in accordance with YMCA policy.
Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development to school-age staff.
Maintain accurate program records, including attendance, enrollment, staff schedules, incident reports, medication records, and other required documentation.
Manage billing for school age program.
Build positive relationships with children and families and respond promptly and professionally to questions, concerns, and feedback.
Communicate regularly with families regarding program activities, expectations, schedules, incidents, and other important information.
Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Assist with developing and managing the school-age program budget, including monitoring expenses and making recommendations regarding supplies, staffing, and program needs.
Participate in marketing, outreach, and enrollment efforts to promote End Zone and Camp Wannago within the community.
Participate in YMCA staff meetings, training (including abuse prevention), events, and organizational initiatives.
Collaborate with other YMCA departments and childcare leadership to ensure consistent policies, procedures, and expectations across programs.
Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with children, families, staff, and community partners.
Work collaboratively with school personnel, YMCA staff, community partners, and other organizations to support successful school-age programming.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the YMCA.

REQUIREMENTS:

Associate degree or higher in education, child/family development, or a closely related field. A combination of relevant education, training, and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
A minimum of 3 years of experience working with children.
Strong understanding of child development, developmentally appropriate practices, and health and safety guidelines in a childcare environment.
Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain professional, composed, and effective in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
Certification in Pediatric CPR/1st Aid or willingness or obtain.
Successful completion of a background check.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Perform all physical aspects of the position, including frequently moving around, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs. at a time
Ability and willingness to work with children and staff outdoors and in gym and swimming pool settings is required.
Environment may be noisy and active.
May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
