JET – Northeast Minnesota Office of Job Training is accepting applications for a CanTrain Navigator / Career Counselor position at the Minnesota CareerForce location in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
JET is a partner in the CareerForce system in the seven-county Northeast region of Minnesota and administers state and federal employment and training programs for dislocated workers, low-income adults, and youth. Programs administered by JET include Adult Career Pathways, the Minnesota Youth Program, employment and training services for the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), the Minnesota Dislocated Worker Program, and federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) services for dislocated workers, adults, and at-risk youth.
This position will primarily work with individuals being recruited to participate in Adult Career Pathways programming, specifically the Cannabis Industry Training Grant (CanTrain). Populations typically served include, but are not limited to, individuals from diverse backgrounds and those with experiences such as trauma, complex poverty, mental health and substance use challenges, disabilities, homelessness, criminal justice involvement, long-term unemployment.
This position involves CanTrain participant recruitment and mentoring, program marketing, business and industry engagement, and case management, as well as advocacy and referral services. Primary responsibilities include working with participants on career readiness, post-secondary education preparation, soft skills development, job search assistance, résumé development, and work experience placements to support successful pursuit of cannabis industry-related employment opportunities. The position also involves providing resources and referrals and adhering to policy expectations for case management, program compliance, and documentation.
This position requires holistic human services orientation, critical thinking skills, a high level of organization, attention to detail, creativity, and a positive and engaging demeanor. The ideal candidate will have a collaborative approach with partnering entities, and will provide excellent customer service in a compassionate, resourceful, and knowledgeable manner, along with a willingness to learn skills needed in a newly emerging industry.
This position will provide direct employment and training services, including career counseling (assessment of interests and abilities), job search strategies, and guidance (related to education and vocational training), monitoring and ensuring program compliance, and providing resources and tools to assist individuals in overcoming barriers and achieving self-sufficiency and stability.
Applicants must have a four-year degree, be within six (6) months of obtaining it, or have a two-year degree and two years of related work experience; possess excellent interpersonal communication skills; be able to reliably work independently; and have strong computer skills and organizational abilities. Previous experience working with individuals in workforce development programs and/or in counseling and case management is highly preferred.
This position is based at the CareerForce location in Grand Rapids, MN (1215 SE 2nd Street, Grand Rapids, MN 55744), Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is a full-time, 37.5-hour-per-week union position starting at $30.13/hour, with full health benefits and paid leave. Employment will be for the term of the grant; hire date through June 30, 2027.
