Safety Specialist – Site Specific in Cohasset, MN
Lakehead Constructors, Inc. is seeking a Safety Specialist for a project site in Cohasset, MN. This site-specific assignment is expected to last approximately 16 months. The Safety Specialist will support supervisory and field personnel by providing guidance on hazard identification and control, safety requirements and practices, and field-level regulatory compliance. Upon completion of this project, the employee will be assigned to another project.
Required skills include, but are not limited to:
· Audits employee and subcontractor field compliance with federal, state, local and company safety regulations, rules, and procedures.
· Participates in planning activities and provides guidance on implementing field-level safety requirements.
· When assigned, performs as on-site safety function for projects with that requirement, including ability to work extended hours, night, and swing shifts as necessary.
· Conducts safety training throughout the organization.
· Conducts jobsite audits of safety processes and performs compliance inspections.
· Assists field personnel at various locations with hazard identification, analysis and control and critical safety and health concerns related to safe work practices.
· Evaluates jobsite hazards and practices and assists implementation of hazard control practices and programs.
· Communicates hazard identification and control information and evaluates effectiveness of hazard controls.
· Provides guidance and assistance to Supervision conducting accident investigations and provides technical support and response for accident investigations company wide.
· Provides oversight into the use of safety equipment and creates and maintains records.
· Assists in coordination and execution of substance abuse testing at the field level.
· Position has 24/7 emergency response availability requirement.
· Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or experience:
· Undergraduate degree in occupational safety is preferred.
· Two (2) years' experience in a construction environment with occupational safety responsibilities.
· A comparable combination of education and experience in an industrial environment will be considered.
· A qualified candidate must have a valid driver’s license, as travel to job sites will be required.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
· Strong persuasive skills in dealing with executive management, managers and field supervisors.
· Ability to organize safety concepts and materials into lesson plans and present training to managers and field labor effectively.
· Strong phone communication skills.
· Ability to efficiently use computers and typical business software.
· Ability to learn and become proficient with LCI specific software.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee may be required to perform duties while wearing a respirator.

While performing the field duties of this position, the employee frequently encounters indoor and outdoor exposures and temperature extremes, wet, humid environments, dirt, dust and frequently must walk, bend, twist, and kneel.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Typical hours are from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm but may fluctuate as the job necessitates. Position requires a minimum of 40-hour work week. Given the nature of this position, hours outside of a typical working day are likely to occur, as well as frequent travel to job sites.
Additional Benefits:
- $150/day stipend (50 miles from project site).
- Company provided vehicle (fuel & expenses paid by Company).
