The City of Grandview is seeking an experienced and collaborative fire service professional to serve as our next Assistant Fire Chief. This executive leadership position plays a critical role in supporting the Fire Chief while helping lead a progressive department committed to excellence in emergency response, firefighter safety, community risk reduction, and exceptional customer service.
Whether serving as a Shift Commander or overseeing key departmental programs, the Assistant Fire Chief will provide strategic leadership, mentor personnel, coordinate emergency operations, and help shape the future of the department.

What You'll Do
As the Assistant Fire Chief, you will:
- Provide executive-level leadership supporting all Fire Department operations.
- Command major emergency incidents and oversee emergency response activities.
- Supervise, mentor, coach, and develop firefighters and company officers.
- Plan, organize, and direct shift operations or assigned departmental programs.
- Ensure operational readiness of personnel, apparatus, and equipment.
- Participate in budgeting, strategic planning, and departmental initiatives.
- Review reports, monitor operational performance, and maintain compliance with department standards.
- Coordinate with city departments, public safety agencies, and community partners.
- Represent the department during public meetings, presentations, and educational programs.
- Serve in the Fire Chief's absence when assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Associate degree in Fire Science or a related field (or ability to obtain within 18 months)
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible fire service experience, including at least two (2) years of supervisory experience
- Firefighter I & II Certification (required at hire)
- Fire Service Instructor I (required at hire)
- Fire Officer I (required at hire)
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (required at hire)
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to successfully pass a background investigation and physical examination
- Fire Prevention Program Manager: Fire Inspector and Fire Investigator
Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates will also possess:
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Science or related field
- Fire Officer II or Chief Fire Officer designation
- Fire Instructor II
- Missouri Paramedic certification
- Fire Inspector and Fire Investigator certifications

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding emergency response activities, operate fire apparatus and specialized equipment, and work in hazardous environments while maintaining compliance with nationally recognized fire service standards.
Pay & Benefits
$92,705- $120,153 annually depending on qualifications. Grandview has an excellent benefits package including a 100% City funded L6 LAGERS pension plan (https://www.molagers.org/join-the-lagers-community/), Aetna Health plan, Dental and Vision plans. Employees enjoy 11 paid Holidays as well as 2 Floating Holidays every year! New employees earn two weeks of Paid Time Off during their first year. This position will include an additional 40 hours of personal leave as an exempt employee.
