Commodities Handler
Location: Granite Falls Energy
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Work Status: Full-time; a full day shift, Monday-Friday.
Starting Wage: $23.00/hr
Position Summary
Granite Falls Energy is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Commodities Handler to support daily grain receiving,
storage, and loadout operations. This hands-on position is responsible for maintaining grain quality, operating equipment,
ensuring safe and efficient material handling, and contributing to the overall success of plant operations. The ideal
candidate is a team player who takes pride in working safely, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining a
clean, organized work environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform all duties under the direction of the Commodities Supervisor.
- Receive, inspect, grade, and unload grain in accordance with Granite Falls Energy's grain procurement policies.
- Load grain and other commodities for shipment while maintaining product quality and accuracy.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently, including:
o Wheeled Loader
o Skid-Steer Loader
o Forklift
o Railcar Mover
- Monitor grain inventory and communicate inventory levels and quality concerns.
- Ensure adequate grain supply is available to support plant operations.
- Perform housekeeping, preventative maintenance, and general facility upkeep.
- Maintain accurate communication with operations and fellow team members.
- Provide exceptional customer service to producers, truck drivers, vendors, and visitors.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or hazards to the Commodities Manager and Safety Coordinator.
- Work collaboratively with all departments to support plant goals.
- Assist with additional duties and special projects as assigned.
- Represent Granite Falls Energy in a professional manner within the community.
Qualifications
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and work at heights of up to 150 feet.
- Ability to enter and work in confined spaces while following all safety procedures.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and perform physical labor throughout the workday.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and around grain dust, moving machinery, and elevated noise levels.
- Flexibility to work overtime or adjusted schedules during busy operational periods.
Knowledge & Skills
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages, and the metric system.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
