Mechanical Test Technician / Mechanical Technician

Industrial Testing Laboratory – North Yarmouth, ME
$27–$32/hour | Full-Time | Day Shift

Yarmouth Research and Technology, LLC is hiring a Mechanical Test Technician / Mechanical Technician to join our industrial testing laboratory in North Yarmouth, Maine.

We are an independent mechanical and materials testing lab supporting manufacturers in the petroleum, chemical processing, and industrial valve industries. Since 1992, we’ve provided third-party testing including fire testing, cryogenic testing, emissions testing, and pressure testing on valves, gaskets, and mechanical components used worldwide.

This is a hands-on technical position for someone who enjoys working with tools, mechanical systems, fixtures, and industrial equipment. The position combines precision technical work with physical, hands-on industrial work. Projects vary based on client needs, so the work stays interesting and involves real-world problem solving.

What You’ll Do

Build and assemble mechanical test setups and fixtures
Perform mechanical testing, pressure testing, and component evaluation
Operate pumps, valves, instrumentation, and lab equipment
Monitor tests and collect accurate data
Perform basic preventative maintenance on test rigs and equipment
Assist with documentation and test reporting
Follow ASTM, API, and ISO procedures
Maintain a safe, organized work environment
Optionally assist with basic automation or scripting if interested (not required)

The Work Environment

This position combines precise technical work with hands-on industrial work. Some days involve careful test setup, instrumentation, measurements, data collection, and documentation where very high attention to detail is critical. Other days involve building or tearing down test setups, working with insulation and industrial materials, performing equipment maintenance, and getting dirty.

Candidates should be comfortable working around noise, grease, dust, insulation, hot and cold equipment, and other conditions typical of a mechanical testing environment. This is not a clean-room, desk, or assembly-line position.

The ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail while performing hands-on industrial work is an important part of the job.

This Is a Long-Term Technical Role

This is a long-term, hands-on technical position where you build real expertise over time. As you gain experience, you’ll become more independent, take on more responsibility, and become a key part of the lab.

We invest heavily in training, so we’re specifically looking for someone interested in a long-term role who wants to develop deep mechanical skills and grow with the company.

What You Bring

Strong mechanical aptitude — maintenance, mechanic, machinist, HVAC, millwright, fabrication, automotive, and other industrial backgrounds can translate well
Comfort using hand tools, shop tools, and mechanical equipment
Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and work on your feet
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work independently and follow safety procedures
Comfort performing both precise technical work and physical, hands-on industrial work

Formal lab experience is not required — we train the right mechanically inclined person.
