Company Overview:

Tandem Specialized has operated for over 50 years in Northern Michigan and throughout the Midwest. We are a growing trucking company looking to add to our Freight Planning & Dispatch team at our Grayling, Michigan location. Our fleet of equipment consists of roughly 50 trucks and 75 trailers (both flatbed and dry van) with a strong focus on heavy haul flatbeds throughout the state of Michigan. Tandem is headquartered on Industrial Drive, just off of 4 Mile Road in Grayling, Michigan. We are in the perfect spot to service the expanding wood products industry in Northern Michigan. Our new building opened in the Spring of 2019 and it has become our main terminal. We offer 24-hour accommodations to drivers and plenty of room to our operations and maintenance teams. Being able to service and maintain our own fleet is an important part of Tandem Specialized.

Schedule

Full-Time, Monday to Friday
7a-5p

Job Description:

Responsible for accurate and timely dispatch of drivers.
Preparation of various reports (primarily using excel).
Monitor driver HOS for proper dispatching and customer load requirements.
Accurate tracking of equipment to ensure profitability and minimal loss.
Provide creative solutions to maximize efficiency and productivity.
Rotating on-call schedule after hours and on weekends.
Professional attitude and able to work in fast paced environment while managing ongoing changes.
Ability to pivot quickly given constant changes relating to drivers, equipment, and customers
Requires strong communication and interpersonal skills (both verbal and written)
Resolve issues that could affect scheduled appointment times and proactively communicate with the customer.
Must be able to multi-task in a dynamic team environment, while also having the ability to efficiently and effectively make independent decisions.
Participate in periodic trainings & safety meetings.

Qualifications and Experience:

1+ years of experience in dispatch or within the trucking industry
Experience with McLeod or similar TMS system highly desired
High school diploma or equivalent education is required
College Degree is Preferred
Knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations
Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office products (Microsoft Excel experience desired)
Proficiency in data entry and typing skills is essential and required (typing speed of 40+ wpm required)
Professionalism and effective communication skills
Customer service skills
Detail oriented
Willingness to solve problems with critical thinking

A bonus if you have:

Experience as a truck driver and/or obtain a CDL
Experience dispatching for heavy haul freight
A license from the National Dispatch and Freight Certification Association

Periodic Safety Meetings (2-3 Saturday's/year)
