Position: Pit Orchestra Conductor for Theater for Young Audiences
The pit orchestra conductor is responsible for the instrument music in a musical theater production.
Responsibilities

Create a rehearsal schedule for the pit orchestra.

Study musical score to identify potential struggles for singers and pit orchestra

Consult with the director and vocal music director regarding edits made to dance music and incidental music

Recruit and hire professional musicians for the orchestra as needed

Conduct the pit during all combined cast and pit rehearsals (both tech and dress), a minimum of one Sitzprobe, and all performances

Coordinate with vocal music director regarding the music rehearsals with cast
- Supervise the set-up of the orchestra pit, with set up prior to the Sunday when dress rehearsals begin

Keep orchestra pit clean and orderly during dress rehearsals and performances

Consult with theater operations manager regarding orchestra lights (if needed in pit) and sound needs (including mics, music stands, and monitors)
