Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Authorization Specialist to join our healthcare administration team. This role is vital in managing the authorization process for medical services, ensuring timely approvals that facilitate patient care and compliance with insurance policies. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of health insurance procedures, and electronic health records management. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to efficient healthcare delivery through meticulous review and coordination of authorization requests.

Duties

Review and process insurance prior authorization requests for medical procedures, tests, and treatments in accordance with health insurance policies and clinical guidelines.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations to maintain patient confidentiality and data security.
Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to gather necessary documentation and clarify authorization requirements.
Maintain detailed records of authorization requests, approvals, denials, and related correspondence.
Responsible for obtaining authorizations for procedures, specialty medications as well as help with data entry.
Assist with any additional tasks that may be assigned from management.

Skills

Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations, medical terminology, and clinical confidentiality policies.
Experience with electronic health records (EHR) or electronic medical records (EMR) management systems.
Familiarity with managed care processes, insurance verification procedures, and health insurance policy details.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and record keeping.
Competence in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook for communication and reporting purposes.
Prior experience in a medical office environment or healthcare setting is highly required.
Effective communication skills to liaise professionally with providers, insurers, and patients.
Knowledge of medical billing practices related to insurance prior authorizations.
Ability to interpret medical records accurately for authorization review purposes.
