Full Job Description

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western Massachusetts seeks a part time staff member to recruit/screen program applicants and create mentoring matches between volunteer mentors and children in the agency's Friday evening program at a local prep school. In addition, on site supervision and activity coordination is expected. The ideal candidate for this position will have prior experience working with children and families. The ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus. This position offers a pay rate of $20.00-$22.00/hr. Travel within Franklin County is required.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Recruits, screens, and interviews volunteer mentors/youth

Interviews families and children to determine eligibility and match suitability
Trains and provides regular supervision to volunteer mentors
Creates mentor/mentee matches based on compatibility and child needs
Maintains ongoing support to families including referrals to services
Adheres to strict confidentiality guidelines
Attends agency-required training and completes required online trainings

Required Skills and Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, clients, volunteers, and community members
Ability to problem-solve independently and collaboratively
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to structure and organize job responsibilities independently
Ability to work in a busy and shared work environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, and ability to use online database to input and maintain client records
Displays sound judgement, patience, and empathy

Minimum Qualifications

A degree in related field and/or equivalent experience
Prior experience working with children and families
Access to personal vehicle for employment use and current driver’s license.
All candidates must complete and pass background record screening process, and a driving record check.

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
