Full Job Description

Overview The Interim Obstetrics/Birthing Center Manager provides operational, clinical, and administrative leadership for a low‑volume, high‑acuity birthing center. This role ensures safe, high‑quality maternal‑child care, stabilizes workflows, supports staff, and maintains full regulatory compliance during organizational transition. As a Director‑level leader, this position carries full responsibility for unit operations, patient safety, and team performance.

Key Responsibilities

Lead day‑to‑day operations for Labor & Delivery, Mother‑Baby, and appropriate post‑surgical patients (GYN, Ortho, General Surgery outpatients in a bed).
Maintain 24/7/365 accountability for the operational safety, staffing, scheduling, workflow oversight, and patient throughput of the birthing center.
Step in clinically when needed to ensure patient safety, support staff, and validate evidence‑based practice standards.
Ensure adherence to Joint Commission, CMS, state regulatory requirements, and maternal‑child health protocols.
Partner with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leadership, and ancillary teams to deliver seamless, patient‑centered care.
Assess unit performance, identify operational gaps, and implement short‑term improvements that strengthen quality, safety, and efficiency.
Support staff engagement, coaching, conflict resolution, and a collaborative work culture.
Oversee documentation standards, chart audits, and compliance with perinatal and maternal safety initiatives.
Manage resources effectively, including supplies, equipment, and budget considerations.
Communicate clearly with senior leadership regarding unit performance, risks, and operational needs.
Lead or support initiatives related to maternal safety bundles, quality metrics, and patient experience.
Coordinate transfer‑out processes for high‑acuity patients in alignment with established agreements.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required; Master’s degree preferred.
Active RN license in Vermont or compact state.
Minimum 3–5 years of leadership experience in Obstetrics, Labor & Delivery, or Maternal‑Child Health.
Demonstrated competency in L&D clinical practice and ability to step in clinically when needed.
Strong knowledge of perinatal standards, maternal safety initiatives, and regulatory requirements.
Proven success managing clinical teams and unit operations.
Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and change‑management skills.
Ability to quickly assess environments and lead effectively in interim or transitional settings.

Assignment Details

Annual compensation range: $130,000–$170,000, depending on experience and scope of assignment
