This is not an entry-level role.
We are looking for a highly detail-oriented Arachnid Care Specialist responsible for the daily care, monitoring, and maintenance of a large-scale tarantula collection. Success in this role depends on consistency, efficiency, and attention to detail. Small oversights in invertebrate care can lead to significant issues, so the right candidate must be observant, disciplined, and fully engaged in routine-driven work.
Core Responsibilities:
- Daily monitoring of tarantula health, behavior, & enclosure conditions
- Identifying early signs of stress, dehydration, molting issues, or decline
- Feeding and watering according to species-specific needs
- Maintaining proper humidity, ventilation, and substrate conditions
- Re-housing, organizing, and collection management
- Packing, shipping, labeling
- Assisting in breeding operations
- Maintaining accurate and consistent records
- Maintain strict adherence to established care and safety protocols
Sample Schedule: Monday through Wednesday includes fulfilling orders & shipping. Thursday is a feeding day. Friday typically consists of feeding, breeding, cleaning, and re-organizing.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on animal husbandry experience
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict care and safety protocols
- Strong observational skills & attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with a high level of accountability
- Team-oriented mindset with willingness to learn and improve
- Comfortable working with large quantities of invertebrates
- Background in animal care, biology, zoology, animal science, or a related field
- Physical capability to:
- Lifting 30lbs regularly
- Standing for long periods
- Use ladders safely
- Moving quickly between ground-level and standing tasks
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience working specifically with tarantulas or other arachnids
- Experience collections of 50+
- Familiarity with molting cycles, species-specific humidity requirements, & behavioral indicators
- Background in entomology, biology, zoology, or related field
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting pay: $15-$17 per hour, based on experience and performance
- Performance-based raises, with potential to earn up to $20/hour as proficiency & excellence is demonstrated
- 5 days PTO after 6 months of full-time (40 hr/week) employment

About Us
Exotics Unlimited began as a vision between two cousins and has grown into a focused, purpose-driven operation, built on the idea of changing the world one animal at a time. We are one of the largest tarantula sources on the East Coast, maintaining a large and diverse arachnid collection of over six-thousand tarantulas. This collection also consists of some true spiders, scorpions, & centipedes. We also have a growing reptile department of 200+ animals across 15+ species, including tree monitors, geckos, skinks, arboreal lizards, and garter snakes. Our work is centered on precision husbandry, consistency, and controlled environments, not public display.
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
