Position Summary
The Project Engineer is a foundational entry-level project role responsible for supporting both project management and field operations on assigned construction projects. The Project Engineer works closely with the Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, subcontractors, vendors, clients, and design teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents.
The Project Engineer serves as a key link between the field and office teams by supporting documentation, communication, coordination, project controls, safety, quality, schedule, and field execution activities. This role is expected to spend meaningful time on the project site learning how work is planned, coordinated, installed, inspected, documented, and turned over while also developing the administrative and project management fundamentals required for future advancement.

Key Responsibilities
Project Administration & Document Control
o Maintain project documentation in Procore and company systems
o Process and track submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, drawing logs, and project correspondence
o Maintain project logs, open action item lists, documentation records, and project files
o Distribute updated drawings, specifications, ASIs, bulletins, sketches, and project documents
o Help ensure project teams are working from current contract documents
o Support document management, record retention, and turnover documentation requirements
Field Support & Coordination
o Maintain regular communication with Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, and field personnel
o Participate in field walks, subcontractor coordination, and onsite problem-solving
o Assist with documenting field progress, manpower, deliveries, constraints, work activities, and progress photos
o Support resolution of field issues impacting safety, quality, schedule, productivity, or coordination
o Help coordinate information between the field team and project management team
o Assist with site logistics, access, deliveries, staging, temporary facilities, and field sequencing as directed
Schedule & Planning Support
o Track project milestones, upcoming activities, and near-term field commitments
o Assist with maintenance of project schedules and three-week look-ahead schedules
o Monitor procurement, submittal, fabrication, and delivery durations that may impact the schedule
o Coordinate with field teams to identify schedule risks, constraints, and recovery needs
o Support planning, sequencing discussions, and schedule recovery efforts when required
Procurement & Material Tracking
o Assist with material procurement and vendor coordination
o Track material lead times, release dates, delivery schedules, and delivery confirmations
o Coordinate vendor and supplier communications as assigned
o Assist with subcontractor onboarding and compliance documentation
o Communicate procurement risks early to the Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, and Superintendent
Quality & Safety Support
o Promote Patterson Horth safety and quality standards on the project site
o Support implementation of project-specific safety requirements and site-specific safety plans
o Assist with observations, inspections, mockups, pre-installation meetings, and deficiency tracking
o Support punch list, commissioning, turnover, and closeout activities
o Assist with documenting quality issues, safety concerns, corrective actions, and follow-up items
Client, Design Team & Trade Partner Communication
o Participate in owner, architect, subcontractor, and project coordination meetings as assigned
o Assist in responding to client requests, design team questions, and project concerns
o Coordinate communication with project stakeholders as directed by project leadership
o Support development and maintenance of professional client and trade partner relationships
o Escalate issues, risks, conflicts, or missing information to project leadership with recommended next steps when possible
Project Closeout & Career Development
o Assist with project turnover, punch list completion, commissioning coordination, and final closeout activities
o Support collection and organization of closeout documents, warranties, as-builts, attic stock, and turnover information
o Develop project management and field leadership skills through active participation in both office and field responsibilities
o Demonstrate increasing ownership, judgment, urgency, and follow-through as experience develops

Operating Cadence
Weekly
o Participate in project team meetings, OAC meetings, and subcontractor coordination meetings as assigned
o Update project logs, open action items, RFIs, submittals, procurement items, and field documentation
o Review upcoming field activities, schedule constraints, and procurement needs with project leadership
o Coordinate with field leadership regarding project progress, manpower, safety, quality, and schedule status
o Support project reporting, meeting minutes, and follow-up communication
Daily
o Manage assigned project and field responsibilities
o Respond to project communications and route information to the appropriate team members
o Track open action items, commitments, field questions, and required follow-up
o Coordinate with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel
o Perform field walks, assist with daily documentation, and update project records in Procore

How we measure Success
o Project documentation is accurate, current, organized, and maintained in Procore.
o RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, project correspondence, and open action items are processed timely and followed through to completion.
o Current drawings, specifications, ASIs, bulletins, and project documents are properly distributed and used by the project team.
o Procurement items, submittal durations, material lead times, deliveries, and field constraints are tracked and communicated early.
o Daily field documentation, progress updates, manpower tracking, inspections, observations, and Procore updates are accurate and timely.
o Communication with the Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, subcontractors, vendors, and design team is clear and proactive.
o Quality, safety, punch list, commissioning, closeout, and turnover documentation is supported accurately and consistently.
o Demonstrates increasing understanding of office and field operations, including schedule, cost, quality, safety, logistics, and trade coordination.
o Demonstrates increasing ownership, judgment, urgency, and readiness for Assistant Project Manager or Assistant Superintendent responsibilities based on career path and project needs.

o Recommend solutions for project issues requiring management action

Qualifications
o Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred
o 0-3 years of commercial or industrial construction experience
o Strong organizational, communication, and follow-up skills
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and Procore
o Ability to manage multiple priorities while working in both field and office environments
o Willingness to learn project management, field supervision, scheduling, safety, quality, and project controls fundamentals

**Please note that this position is Hybrid due to some time being in-office and some on the jobsite. This is not considered a remote position.
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
