The Beer’d Brewing Company (Beer’d) has two locations, The Mill in Stonington and The Silo in Groton. We are looking to add to both our Stonington and Groton Beer’d Teams. Beer’d opened in 2012 with a three-barrel system and has grown to host two production breweries. Beer’d specializes in India Pale Ales, American Pale Ales and barrel-aged beers.
Both taprooms will have their own Taproom Coordinator and Beertenders. The ideal candidate will be passionate, committed to and relentlessly quality-focused, while also cognizant of the importance of listening, teamwork, and the company’s core focus.
The taproom is the face of the brewery and our tasting room experience must be extraordinary, as such we place great importance on customer service and perceived value.
We are looking for someone to provide the best “beer experience” possible!
Primary Function
The Beertender ensures that customers are consistently satisfied with their experience. This person assist in daily taproom operations, restocks, and serves beer to customers. Position reports to Taproom Manager.
Responsibilities
Taproom Operations
-Supports the Beer'd Brewing Co.'s values and focus
- Assists with opening and closing responsibilities
- Serves beer for customers
- Maintains safe, clean, healthy and sustainable taproom environment by daily cleaning
- Complies with all safe chemical handling procedures including personal protection equipment such as gloves and goggles
Retail
- Zones merchandise display(s) to maximize revenue
- Restocks low inventory items
Customer Service
- Improves customer service (greeting, educating, processing transactions)
- Assists in executing events and parties
- Deals with all issues that arise from staff and/or customers (complaints, grievances, etc.)
- Solicits customer feedback and analyzes to identify opportunities to improve experience
Other
- Represents Beer’d at industry technical events, conferences, and marketing events
- Ability to assist with offsite tastings and events as necessary
Requirements
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays
- Ability to troubleshoot tap systems/kegs
- Attention to detail and adherence to standard operating procedures with minimal deviation
- Must be able to bend, squat, kneel, push, pull and walk on uneven surfaces on an occasional basis
- Must be able to climb stairs both inside and outside and ladders
- Occasionally lift up to 60 lbs
- Solid working knowledge with brewery ERP systems (Ekos & Keg Id) and POS systems (Square)
- Knowledgeable and complies with DOL, DOH, OSHA, TTB, and DCP regulations
- Ability to create a strategy to implement continual improvements in the taproom
- Demonstrated ability to create and deliver engaging, straight forward, and detail-oriented presentations to a wide variety of audiences
- TIPS Alcohol Certified
- Ability to become a Certified Cicerone within two years
- Resourceful in making suggestions and offering solution instead of just identifying problems
Education, Experience and Skills
- A minimum 2 years practical, professional taproom or restaurant experience
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and constantly changing work environment
- Writing and math skills are necessary
- Strong work ethic and self-starter
- Excellent interpersonal skills and team collaboration
- High level of attention to detail and strong communication skills
- Enthusiasm for craft beer and a commitment to understanding and supporting beer quality
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Some flexibility in hours is allowed, however employees are expected to be available during the “core” taproom hours. Flexibility is required as job duties demand.
