We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager / Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) to lead the daily operations of municipal and private water and wastewater systems throughout North Carolina. This is a Senior Leadership position

What You'll Do
As the Operations Manager, you'll oversee the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of water and wastewater facilities while leading a team of operators and technicians.
Leadership & Operations
- Serve as the Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) for assigned facilities.
- Lead, mentor, and develop operations personnel.
- Schedule daily work assignments and prioritize maintenance activities.
- Supervise contractors and outside vendors.
- Foster a positive culture centered on teamwork, accountability, and safety.
Water & Wastewater Operations
Oversee one or more of the following:
- Water Treatment Plants
- Water Distribution Systems
- Wastewater Treatment Plants
- Wastewater Collection Systems
- Stormwater Systems
Responsibilities include operating and maintaining:
- Pumps
- Wells
- Water Intakes
- Reservoirs
- Lift Stations
- SCADA Systems
- Motor Control Centers
- Chemical Feed Systems
- Automatic Control Valves
- Production Meters
- Treatment Equipment
Preventive Maintenance
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs.
- Coordinate equipment inspections and repairs.
- Monitor pump efficiency and system performance.
- Ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and fully operational.
Budget & Client Management
- Prepare and manage operating and capital budgets.
- Build strong relationships with municipalities and private utility clients.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies.
- Communicate effectively with customers, local officials, and company leadership.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain accurate operational records and reports.
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and environmental regulations.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
Associate Degree in a technical or scientific discipline (or equivalent experience considered)
North Carolina C-Surface Water License
Minimum 5 years of water and/or wastewater operations experience
Previous leadership or supervisory experience
Strong knowledge of water/wastewater operational best practices
Experience with SCADA systems and utility infrastructure
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Strong budgeting and operational planning abilities
Valid Driver's License
Ability to pass:

Must be eligible to work in the United States (E-Verify employer)
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional North Carolina Water or Wastewater Certifications
- ORC experience
- Budget management experience
- Municipal utility experience
- CPR & First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain within 12 months)
