Overview

For more than 50 years, Sall Myers Medical Associates has provided multidisciplinary care to patients in the personal injury community, bringing multiple specialties and providers together under one organization.

We are currently seeking an experienced, bilingual (English/Spanish) Surgical Coordinator to join our team. This is a hands-on patient coordination position for someone who understands that scheduling surgery involves much more than putting a procedure on a calendar.

The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of surgical booking or surgical coordination experience, is highly organized, confident communicating with patients, able to take direction, and capable of moving multiple time-sensitive cases forward simultaneously.

The Role

The Surgical Coordinator will work closely with our physicians and under the direction of the Director of Case Operations to guide patients through the surgical process from the time a physician makes a surgical recommendation through surgical booking and medical clearance.

A critical part of this position is patient communication. The Surgical Coordinator must be able to speak with patients confidently and compassionately, explain their physician's surgical recommendation, educate them about what happens next, answer process-related questions, and make sure they understand each step required to move forward.

When a patient is not ready to proceed or circumstances change, the coordinator must be able to re-pivot appropriately within the patient's care plan, communicate the situation to the appropriate team members, and ensure the patient's treatment continues to move forward.

Requirements/Responsibilities

Meet and communicate with patients following a physician's surgical recommendation
Confirm and reinforce information regarding the physician's surgical recommendation and next steps
Educate patients on the surgical coordination, booking, and medical-clearance process
Guide patients from surgical indication through surgical booking
Coordinate and closely follow the medical-clearance process, identifying outstanding requirements and acting quickly to prevent unnecessary delays
Maintain consistent patient communication throughout the pre-surgical process
Coordinate surgical dates and required documentation with physicians, facilities, patients, and appropriate internal departments
Maintain accurate documentation and status updates for all assigned surgical cases
Manage multiple surgical cases simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and follow-through
May require travel with the physician's schedule between our Elmwood Park home office and two satellite office locations
Work collaboratively with physicians, medical staff, administrative staff, and the Director of Case Operations
Our practice serves a significant personal injury patient population. Treatment and surgical cases are time-sensitive and must be prioritized accordingly.
The successful candidate must understand how to distinguish routine tasks requiring immediate attention and be able to multitask, prioritize, follow up, and act quickly without sacrificing accuracy or patient communication.
This is not a position where cases can simply sit in a queue waiting for someone to circle back to them.

Required & Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual English/Spanish — REQUIRED
Previous surgical booking/surgical coordination experience required
2-3 years of surgical coordination experience preferred
Strong verbal communication skills and a professional, patient-friendly manner
Ability to explain processes clearly and comfortably to patients
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
Strong attention to detail and consistent follow-through
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive medical environment
Ability to take direction and work collaboratively as part of a team
Ability to travel between our Elmwood Park office and satellite locations according to the physician's schedule
Dependable transportation
Professional judgment and the ability to recognize when a case requires immediate attention

Experience within personal injury, orthopedics, spine, pain management, or a multidisciplinary medical practice is strongly preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

$25.00–$30.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
