Job Description: Taproom Manager

Reports to: Owner

Effective Date: Immediate Opening

Salary / Full-Time / Exempt / Incentives

Position Overview
We are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented, tech-savvy, passionate craft beer aficionado, and team leader to join our management team and excellent crew. You will be responsible for setting the scenes, getting the word out, and orchestrating the events. Now in our eighth year in Northampton, MA, you will be instrumental to the continued growth and success of the brewery. Avon with be a new satellite location for us opening this Spring. Salary will be commensurate with experience and the incentive will provide the opportunity to be rewarded for helping us grow.

Position Summary
The Taproom Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily functions of the brewery taproom while maintaining a positive work environment through inspiring, developing, coaching, and providing a team-focused, always innovative and entrepreneurial vision of excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Primary responsibility of managing all taproom activities
Actively creating and managing social media and other advertising channels to promote the taproom
Recruiting, hiring, orienting, training, scheduling staff
Supervise all employees working in the taproom and kitchen
Maintain an employee-friendly and positive work environment, ensuring all workplace rules are understood and followed
Maintain clean, safe, and secure facility environment
Create and maintain a pleasant and welcoming taproom environment (temperature, lighting, music, and cleanliness)
Organize and design merchandise displays and seasonal taproom décor
Serve as a main point of contact for all taproom inquires
Passionately nurture staff and patron knowledge of our beers, food, and culture.
Ensure that all guests are given responsive, friendly and courteous service at all times
Be a brand ambassador and maintain the highest levels of customer satisfaction
Solicit, oversee and manage on-site special events, including private events, tours, music, and other promotional events to include calendar, promotion, setup, staffing, and execution
Identify promotional/event opportunities and foster relationships for promoting the brewery
Resolving complaints from customers in a polite, friendly manner
Master and maintain POS terminals and back office
Control cash and receipts by adhering to cash handling and reconciliation procedures
Improve systems and create SOP’s in conjunction with your team
Ensure tap system is maintained and cleaned. Troubleshoot as necessary
Ensure daily inspections and periodic audits to check safety of equipment in taproom, kitchen, and brewery
Maintain and update all permits and certificates as needed.
Maintain an inventory for all items that need to be reordered (glassware, dishware, SWAG, etc..). Reorder as necessary.
Providing regular, accurate, computerized reports of operations to owner management
Ensuring safe work operations, safety policies and procedures including sanitary handling of food and beverages, and potentially hazardous chemicals and materials
Comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations
Fill in where needed to ensure guest service standards are met
Performing other work-related duties as needed

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Demonstrated knowledge of craft beer, including understanding of beer production (Cicerone Beer Server preferred)
TIPS (or equivalent) and ChokeSaver certification preferred (required to become certified upon hiring)
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Exceptional customer service skills
Well versed computer and social media skills required
Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
Ability to anticipate and proactively address problems in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated leadership
Positive attitude and ability to work with a diverse set of people
Hospitality and restaurant management certification or college degree preferred
Previous restaurant/hospitality management experience required
Knowledge of safe work operations, safety policies and procedures preferred
Willingness to work evenings and weekends required
Strong time management skills and accuracy to deal with a variety of duties and prepare reports according to schedule required

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear or answer phones. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and with assistance move up to 160 lbs. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to sharp objects, slippery floors, smoke, steam, high temperatures, humidity, and extreme cold. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment varies from low to high.
