Full Job Description

QTL Lighting (formerly Q-Tran) is an architectural LED lighting manufacturer headquartered in Milford, CT, with over 200 employees and facilities in Connecticut and California. We design and manufacture precision LED lighting solutions for high-end commercial, hospitality, and architectural applications. With over 470% revenue growth under our current leadership, we are scaling rapidly—and now building an in-house machining capability to support that growth.

Position Summary

This is an opportunity for a skilled machinist who wants more than a job. We are establishing a new machining department at our Milford facility to produce precision components and custom fixtures for our LED product lines—and we are looking for the person who will not only run the machines on day one, but eventually lead the division as it grows.

Responsibilities:

Set up, program, and operate CNC mills and CNC lathes to produce precision components from aluminum, stainless steel, and brass/copper
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD files to machine parts to tight tolerances
Select tooling, fixtures, and workholding solutions; perform setups for low-to-medium volume production runs
Write, edit, and optimize G-code programs (Fanuc, Mazatrol, or similar)
Perform in-process and final inspection using calipers, micrometers, and standard measurement tools
Maintain machines, tooling inventory, and a clean, organized shop environment
Partner with our engineering and product teams to support new product development and prototyping
As the department grows: hire, train, and mentor additional machinists; take ownership of workflow, capacity planning, and shop standards

Experience & Qualifications:

Required:

5+ years of hands-on experience operating and setting up CNC mills and CNC lathes in a production environment
Proficiency in G-code programming; ability to write and edit programs from scratch at the machine or via CAM software
Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, and brass/copper to close tolerances
Proficiency with standard metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
Self-starter mentality—comfortable working independently and making good decisions without a supervisor looking over your shoulder

Preferred:

Experience in a job shop or low-volume/high-mix environment
Exposure to CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar)
Prior lead or supervisory experience in a machine shop
Familiarity with aluminum extrusion, LED fixture components, or architectural manufacturing
Associate’s degree or certificate from a trade/technical school

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
