Full Job Description

SUMMARY: The Senior Coordinator supports year-round health and wellness initiatives for Special Olympics Connecticut (SOCT). This includes managing fitness programs like Fit 5 and Unified Fitness Clubs, training coaches and professionals, and other ongoing health and wellness programming. The role involves program planning, budgeting, evaluation, and partnership development to promote inclusive health for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This is a forty-hour per week full-time non-exempt position (Hourly Rate: $25/hour). Some evenings and weekends required.

PRIMARY DUTIES

Oversee all adaptive fitness activities including Fit 5*, Unified Fitness Clubs*, Performance Stations*, virtual activities and training coaches and fitness professionals
Plan, implement and evaluate fitness programs
Recruit athletes, coaches, and families to participate in ongoing fitness programming and activities
Manage program budgets and track grant expenditure.
Train health and fitness professionals and students on working with individuals with intellectual disabilities
Monitors and evaluates program performance through collection and analysis of health and fitness data
Develops and manages partnerships with sponsors, key stakeholders, fitness volunteers and event committees
Supports Health & Wellness Assistant to manage the Health Messengers* team
Support Health & Wellness Director on various projects as needed
Is aware of and complies with SOCT’s policies, procedures and non-discrimination policy
Proficient with Microsoft 365, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Canva
Must have a valid Connecticut Driver’s License

SECONDARY DUTIES

Assist with organizing and implementing Family Health Forums at events and stand-alone events
Supports the offering of Healthy Athletes®* disciplines – Health Promotion and FUNfitness screenings and services at existing (and new) SOCT events
Present on SOCT and health programs at various events/presentations with community partners
Any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor and/or President/CEO

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in public health, exercise science, sports management or related field, with a minimum of two years of experience in program planning, lesson planning or related experience.
Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in dynamic environments.
Demonstrated success in designing outcome-driven programs aligned with clear objectives and measurable performance indicators.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain collaborative networks.
Experience in disability justice and/or health equity strongly preferred.
Experience in working with individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred.
Willingness and ability to travel throughout the Connecticut area as needed.

*Program descriptions:

Fit 5 offers education on fitness, nutrition, and hydration and how it impacts overall athletic performance.

Unified Fitness Clubs bring together individuals with and without intellectual disabilities and provide opportunities to engage in regular physical activity.

Performance Stations are designed to educate and engage athletes in fitness and how it related to athletic performance.

Healthy Athletes offers free health screening and education to Special Olympics athletes in multiple disciplines including podiatry, dental, vision, audiology, health promotion, sport physicals, mental and emotional wellbeing and physical therapy.

Health Messengers are athletes who are trained to serve as health and wellness leaders, educators, advocates and role models within their Special Olympics communities, as well as the community at large.
