We are seeking a skilled Machinist I to support precision manufacturing operations within our advanced CNC machining department. This role is responsible for machine setups, production machining, tooling adjustments, and maintaining quality standards across a variety of multi-axis machining platforms.
The ideal candidate has experience performing setups on previously proven programs and is comfortable operating in a modern machining environment utilizing 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC equipment.
This position is designed for machinists who are progressing beyond machine operation and developing broader technical ownership of machining processes, setups, and production efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Perform machine setups for previously proven production programs
- Set up and operate CNC vertical mills, horizontal mills, and lathes, including live-tooling and sub-spindle operations.
- Install fixtures, tooling, and workholding equipment
- Load programs, set tool offsets, and establish work offsets
- Run production parts while monitoring dimensional accuracy and machine performance
- Perform first article inspections on existing production programs
- Inspect machined components using calipers, micrometers, bore and height gauges
- Perform deburring, blasting, and other finishing operations to ensure parts meet quality and appearance standards.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and other process documentation
- Troubleshoot basic machining and dimensional issues
- Make offset and tooling adjustments to maintain process capability
- Collaborate with QC personnel to resolve dimensional concerns
- Assist with process improvements and setup optimization initiatives
- Maintain accurate setup and production documentation
- Perform routine daily, weekly, and monthly machine maintenance including cleaning equipment, managing chip removal, checking fluid levels, maintaining tooling, and supporting overall machine readiness and uptime.
- Support training and development of Machine Operators transitioning into machining roles
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 2–5 years of CNC machining experience preferred
- Experience performing setups on CNC machining centers and lathes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Strong understanding of machining fundamentals and inspection techniques
- Experience using precision inspection tools
- Ability to maintain tight tolerances when machining precision components
- Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Haas CNC controls
- Experience operating:
- 3, 4, 5-axis vertical mills
- 5-axis horizontal mills
- CNC lathes, including live-tooling and sub-spindle operations
- Experience machining aluminum and stainless steel
- Familiarity with metric drawings and metric inspection practices
- Exposure to high-precision or defense-related manufacturing environments
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Frequent use of hands and precision measuring tools
- Exposure to machining coolant, metal chips, and industrial noise
- Required use of eye and ear protection in designated manufacturing areas
