We are seeking a passionate Assistant Teacher to join our Evergreen Kids Corner program serving children ages 3–5. This position supports the Lead Teacher in delivering high-quality early childhood education rooted in BELN’s values of family partnership, environmental stewardship, and community connection.

Position Overview
The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing high-quality, developmentally appropriate, place-based early learning experiences for preschool-aged children. This role assists with curriculum implementation, classroom management, family engagement, and daily operations while helping create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum aligned with BELN’s place-based philosophy and Montana Early Learning Standards.
- Support the Lead Teacher in preparing engaging, hands-on learning experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, exploration, and social-emotional development for children ages 3–5.
- Participate in outdoor education experiences, nature-based learning, and field trips that strengthen children’s connection to the natural world and local community.
- Help plan, set up, and facilitate daily classroom activities, projects, and special events that support whole-child development.
- Assist in observing, documenting, and supporting children’s developmental progress and learning milestones in collaboration with the Lead Teacher.
- Support smooth daily classroom operations, including transitions, meals, rest time, toileting support, and outdoor play routines.
- Help maintain a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment at all times.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, classroom documentation, and other required program records.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with families regarding daily activities, routines, and child development updates.
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher, staff, volunteers, and community partners to support consistent, high-quality early learning experiences.
- Model professionalism, patience, teamwork, and BELN’s values of respect, inclusion, and environmental stewardship.
- Support positive classroom culture by fostering nurturing relationships, guiding social interactions, and promoting emotional regulation and cooperation among children.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with all health, safety, and licensing requirements, including CPR/First Aid standards.
- Support classroom organization, preparation of materials, and upkeep of learning environments.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and family engagement events as required.
- Support BELN-wide initiatives, events, and community partnerships that strengthen connections between families, the classroom, and the broader community.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with young children or strong interest in early childhood education.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and team members.
- Strong organizational skills, reliability, and professionalism.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
- CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
Preferred
- Associate degree, CDA, or coursework in Early Childhood Education or related field.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children (ages 3–5).
- Knowledge of child development and early learning best practices.
- Passion for place-based education, outdoor learning, and family engagement.
Compensation and Benefits
- $15–$18 per hour, depending on experience and education

Physical Demands
This position requires active engagement with preschool-aged children in both indoor and outdoor learning environments. Employees must be able to participate in place-based activities such as outdoor play, nature exploration, walking field trips, and recreational movement experiences.
The role requires regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and the ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds. The position also requires close supervision of children, strong communication skills, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively in a dynamic classroom environment.
