LEAD CARPENTER JOB DESCRIPTION

Specific Duties
- The Lead Carpenter is the company’s on-site manager of the remodeling project. His/her conscientious performance is extremely important to the success of our company. The lead carpenter is on the “front line” in achieving our company goals of superior product quality and superior customer satisfaction.
- LEAD CARPENTER Responsibilities:
Labor: The Lead Carpenter is responsible for performing and or supervising all labor on the job, requesting in advance help as needed. When other carpenters or helpers are on the job, the lead is responsible for assigning them work, expediting their performance, and general supervision.
Time sheets: Time sheets for all personnel on the job site should be checked daily for accuracy. If a discrepancy is found on an individual’s time sheet, a discussion should ensue with the employee during which the employee makes appropriate corrections prior to the time cards being turned into the office.
Time sheet information will include:
- Name and payroll week dates.
- Hours worked on individual jobs by job cost category.
- Job number
- Notes concerning Change Requests.
Trade Contractors: The Lead Carpenter schedules and supervises all trade
contractors, ensures their proper performance, and ensures that timely inspections are made on their work.
Material Deliveries: The Lead Carpenter is responsible for ordering materials promptly and accurately. Most suppliers will deliver to the job site if given notice. Please be sure to check materials deliveries for accuracy in quantity and measurement, and for any damage. Truck drivers are to wait for your inspection, because by signing the delivery ticket you are indicating that there is no problem with the delivery. Be sure to note any problems directly on the ticket. Hourly employees should pick up materials only under emergency conditions. These pick-ups should be arranged to be done at the beginning of the work day or at the end of the day on the way home.
Security: The Lead Carpenter shall:
Protect the customers’ property. Do not use, or allow others to use, any of the customers’ property: furniture, equipment, tools or cleaning supplies.
Set up and monitor a “safe place” on the job site where items to be reused are protected.
Secure the property the end of each day. Do not leave equipment accessable for possible use or misuse by others.
Dust protection: Adequate dust protection is one of the Lead Carpenter’s most important jobs. Try to keep dust and dirt as isolated from the customers as possible. Vacuum -clean the job site daily, and see that trash is hauled at least
weekly. Trash that is not put in a dumpster (overflow) should be placed on plastic until it can be removed. Absolutely no food trash is to be put in the construction trash. Remove food trash from site personally.
Smoking: Smoking is not allowed inside the customers’ home or in the vicinity of doors or windows. Provide and maintain an ASH reciever if needed.
Abusive Language: Discourage and monitor abusive or foul language.
Inappropriate Conversations: The Lead Carpenter is responsible for keeping conversations on the job site positive toward the customer, the company, the company’s policies, supervisors, colleagues, etc.
Loud Music: Radios should be played quietly and should be turned “off” during site visits with the customer, inspectors and office personnel.
Alcohol or Illegal Drugs: Absolutely no alcohol or illegal drugs may be used on the job or anywhere near the job site. Such use of alcohol or illegal drugs will result in immediate dismissal.
Telephones: If approved in advance by customer, the customers’ telephone should be used only for business or emergency personal calls.
Change Requests: For all major changes please be sure to refer the customer to the sales department before extra work is begun. The sales department will determine the cost and obtain the customers’ approval.
Job Sign: After customer approval, you are responsible for installing a job sign in the most prominent place and making sure that it remains in good condition.
Job Scheduling: The Lead Carpenter is responsible keeping the project on schedule or ahead of schedule and keeping the customers updated on the daily and long term schedule. Notify the production coordinator if you will have problems keeping to the schedule. Report the status of your job to the production coordinator every evening before leaving for the day.
Job Safety: Job safety for the customer, trades and our workers is the lead carpenter’s responsibility.
Hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, and sturdy work shoes should be worn where and when necessary. Be sure that job conditions encourage safety. Monitor both company and individual equipment for proper safety features and safe electrical cords, and inform the production manager of any unsafe conditions.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour

- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Experience:
- Construction Experience: 3 years (Preferred)
- Project Management: 1 year (Preferred)
