The (Community Based) Qualified Mental Health Professional is responsible for providing goal-directed training to enable program clients to achieve stability and independence in a community-based environment. The Qualified Mental Health Professional provides training to program clients in areas including functional health and safety skills, appropriate personal and interactive behavior, activities of daily living, use of community resources, medication management assistance, and overall monitoring of health and welfare. Qualified Mental Health Professionals believe that through hope and encouragement, mental health recovery is possible. The role includes supporting clients in relapse prevention, substance use education, and recovery-based behavioral health services.”
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provides training and support services to enable individuals with significant psychiatric diagnoses and functional limitations to achieve and maintain community stability and independence in the most appropriate, least restrictive environment. Training and support services to include, but are not limited to, independent living skills, case management and other related services.
· Develops of a concrete, specific individualized treatment plan with goals, objectives and discharge criteria to address client and family needs
· Conceptualizes presenting issues and develops of course of treatment
· Coordinates and coordinates with collaterals involved to plan for and/or address case issues.
· Participates in community collaborative meetings.
· Responds to crisis intervention with twenty-four (24) hour a day availability
· Documents case activities for both clinical and billing purposes
· Prepare progress reports as required by referral source or service purchaser
· Links clients with external programs or services, such as health services, recreational activities, financial resources, employment resources, childcare, AA/NA groups
· Attends meetings, trainings and conferences as required.
· Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Clinical Director of ACS.
Provide education and supportive guidance to individuals experiencing substance use challenges. Collaborate with substance use treatment providers and recovery coaches to ensure continuity of care for clients with co-occurring disorders.
Assist clients in identifying triggers, developing coping strategies, and building sober support systems.
Facilitate or co-facilitate skill-building sessions related to substance use awareness, behavioral change, and wellness recovery action plans (WRAP).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited college or university and one year of experience providing mental health treatment to troubled children and families is REQUIRED. Preferred Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related human services field from an accredited college or university with one year of experience in the mental health field working with children and/or adolescents.
Must meet the criteria to be a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and registered with the Department of Health Professions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of mental health skill building services, commonly used concepts, practices, ethics and procedures within the human services field. Knowledge of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Service’s regulations, DSM V diagnoses, and psycho-social assessments.
Knowledge of the referral process, therapeutic groups, community resources, Multisystem Theory and therapeutic crisis intervention training. Knowledge of computers and how to use applications with Microsoft Office.
Skills in oral and written communication, dealing with the public, remaining calm under pressure, problem solving with clients, and time management. Skilled in attending to details, managing work activities, completing multiple tasks simultaneously and meeting deadlines.
Skilled in understanding and following directions.
Ability to establish and maintain professional work relationships with fellow workers, problem solve, and implement procedures and standards of the ACS program. Ability to provide instructions and organize tasks and complete them within required time frames. Ability to pay attention to detail, identify problems and present possible solutions to the Clinical Director.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and report on progress. Ability to be assertive and make sound clinical judgments and present the program and market to referral sources.
Performance Evaluations will be completed by the Clinical Director at least annually. All full-time employees are required to attend at least one training event per year and maintain QMHP registration with the Board of Counseling during employment by completing required continuing education credits. Additional mandatory or assigned training events may be required.
- Prior work with individuals with co-occurring disorders (mental health + substance use).
- Familiarity with motivational interviewing (MI), 12-step facilitation, or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Substance Use Disorders (CBT-SUD).
- Knowledge of community recovery resources such as AA/NA/SMART Recovery.
REQUIREMENTS
Maintain reliable and regular attendance, be punctual and work the hours required and to work a flexible schedule as needed. Maintain acceptable performance standards, accept feedback, and act in an appropriate and professional manner. Maintain an appropriate and professional appearance and refrain from abusive and threatening conduct. Maintain appropriate boundaries with co-workers and clients and assist the Clinical Director and Executive Director as needed.
Possession of a vehicle to use for work related travel, possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as reported by DMV, automobile insurance, an acceptable criminal history and central registry background, a signed sworn disclosure statement, and a signed corporal punishment statement. First Aid/CPR will be required of all ACS employees and certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment. Employees will be required to attend refresher classes yearly, CPR training and First Aid Training every two years (or as set forth by the agency providing the training). Employees will have yearly refreshers in Behavior management, Emergency preparedness, and Human Rights and all training and development will be documented in employee personnel records.
Pay: $27.00 - $30.00 per hour
