Michigan Technological University Human Resources performs a wide range of administrative support related tasks that contribute to the overall smooth operations of diverse HR functions while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and professional. This department positively represents the University by providing outstanding customer service when responding to the needs of campus clients and external contacts.
Primary responsibilities include providing assistance in the academic employment area. This includes assisting with faculty and postdoc hiring, promotion, tenure and review processing and data entry and tracking of the same.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
1. Track and support function with the Faculty Review, Promotion and Tenure process.
2. Review, track and data enter employment and maintain employee records.
3. Provide back up support for the Campus & Community Welcome Program which include but are not limited to: coordination of schedule, greet and welcome upon arrival and preparation of materials.
4. Review EPAF edits and process those ready to be applied.
5. Build and maintain packets for New Husky Orientation including but not limited to benefits, payroll and/or employment eligibility verification.
6. PageUp support role for academic and staff employment.
7. Review and update HR forms and website information to ensure accuracy.
8. Complete Benefits and/or Payroll deduction adjustments.
9. Maintain and update permanent, confidential Employee files.
10. Complete internal and/or vendor audits.
11. Run and analyze reports related to HR. Take action as needed.
12. Be knowledgeable about the organization and business of MTU Human Resources and act as a backup to support all areas.
13. Be knowledgeable of regulations including but not limited to Federal, State and local taxes.
14.. Provide advanced administrative support for daily HR functions including answering phones and directing non-routine questions; receive and route mail; manage email accounts and request tracking system; compose routine correspondence; draft replies to non-routine inquiries.
15. Collect the appropriate materials and sign-off on I-9 forms for new employees while tracking and communicating progress with departments.
16. Work with the employment representative to process and track background checks for new employees.
17. Greet and assist customers in a friendly, courteous manner.
18. Independently research and resolve problems associated with HR.
19. Analyze and enter data in HRIS from all status forms which include but are not limited to: Position Authorization Forms, Employee Status Change Forms and Short-Term/Casual/Seasonal Employment Authorization Forms.
20. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
21. Integrate safety practices into daily activities.
22. Assist with special projects, functions and events.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
- High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
- Two years office/clerical experience.
- Two years of proven high-quality customer service experience.
- Two years experience using personal computers including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
- Experience working in a Human Resources Department.
- Familiarity and experience with Banner.
- Experience working with people from multiple countries and cultures.
