Since 1982, the California Health Collaborative (CHC) has a long history of working with youth and their families through culturally responsive and community-centered public health programming. With a mission of “changing lives by improving health and wellness", CHC is committed to addressing and advocating for health justice among California’s underserved and underrepresented communities who have limited access to resources, and often face barriers related to culture, language, income, race, education, gender, geography, or immigration status.
SUMMARY
Under direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Community Engagement Coordinator will support the efforts of the SOL Youth Program in the planning and implementation of family engagement and strengthening activities, youth leadership groups and events, community presentations, and community outreach activities. Utilizing a trauma-informed and healing centered approach, the Community Engagement Coordinator will lead substance use disorder prevention efforts in school and community settings throughout Kings County.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Consults with the Program Manager, relative to planning, policy, and program direction.
- Responsible for leading family engagement activities of the program through a culturally responsive family strengthening program.
- The Community Engagement Coordinator, in conjunction with the Manager, will represent the program at community and educational-based community events and activities.
- Work with Program Manager and other staff to tabulate participant data for progress reports to funding source(s).
- Gather and maintain all documentation related to curriculum sessions and all other project activities required by funding source(s).
- Assists with plans and logistics for all program meetings and educational presentations for parents, families, and youth.
- Implements outreach activities in the community to provide youth and community residents with alcohol and cannabis prevention information.
- Supports with facilitating Friday Night Live Chapter that supports youth in developing advocacy and leadership skills through weekly meetings, ongoing trainings, and youth-led projects.
- Represents the California Health Collaborative at meetings with committees, community agencies, care providers and related entities, and facilitates inter-agency linkages, communication, and collaboration.
- Present and model values and behavior consistent with inclusivity, respect, and affirmation of all youth identities.
- Work with county administrators, project partners and community residents to ensure the safe, effective implementation of all project activities.
- Attend annual trainings and conferences as appropriate to job duties or required by funding source(s).
- Lead the recruitment of volunteers from throughout the organization and community to support on trips and during activities in Kings County.
- Host listening sessions in Kings County to reduce participant barriers to participation and identify outdoor locations to visit throughout the State.
- Design and lead local outdoor wellness activities and outdoor wellness trips across outdoor spaces in California.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
In addition to Community Engagement Coordinator duties, this position will dedicate approximately 20% (8 hours per week) of time to Kings Coastal Experiences for Youth (KCEY), in coordination with supervising care management staff and program leadership.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Education and experience requirements may include a bachelor’s degree in Community Health, Child Development, Social Work or a related field and a minimum of one years’ experience working with high-need families in a culturally diverse setting OR A combination of work experience and education, indicating an ability to fulfill the requirements of the position. A valid California Driver’s License and proof of insurance.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, procedure manuals, government regulations, technical articles, and general business periodicals. Ability to write in an effective, concise manner. Ability to effectively present information to groups of various backgrounds and respond to questions.
Bilingual skills in Spanish/English preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform advanced arithmetic calculations, in order to lead the expenditures of the project and the tracking of program expenses.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to work independently, exercise initiative and good judgment, solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited or no standardization exists, and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITIES
Ability to connect with youth, parents, and families from rural communities and diverse
backgrounds.
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
Ability to travel and, if necessary, attend out-of-town meetings or conferences which could
require overnight travel.
Experience with Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe Acrobat and other software programs.
Cross-Program Collaboration
- Collaborate across CHC programs to increase awareness of CHC services, promote CHC-branded programs and standardized referral pathways, and consistently utilize CHC’s online referral asset (including the CHW Navigation hub and related support programs) to strengthen access, coordination, and continuity of care.
External Awareness & Representation
- Proactively promote CHC priorities, programs, and referral assets to all external stakeholders—including enrollees, partner organizations, and community entities—to eliminate fragmentation, prevent missed referral opportunities, and ensure consistent awareness and utilization of CHC services.

The majority of the activities will be performed in an indoor environment similar to a classroom.
Implementation of some community engagement activities will require working in outdoor
recreational settings.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but could occasionally be high.
This position will be full-time 100% FTE through June 30, 2027, starting July 1, 2027, the position will be reduced to 50% with the possibility of program staff being shared across another program. Kings Coastal Experiences for Youth (KCEY) ends on December 31, 2027.
