About HCRJC

The Hartford Community Restorative Justice Center supports people impacted by the justice system as they rebuild their lives and reconnect with their communities. As one of Vermont’s Community Justice Centers, HCRJC works closely with the Vermont Department of Corrections to provide restorative justice and reentry support grounded in accountability, dignity, and real human connection.

HCRJC’s Transitional Housing Program is where housing stability, restorative practices, and daily support come together. Residents live in our housing sites while working toward employment, independence, and long-term stability with consistent guidance from staff.

Position Summary

The Restorative Reentry & Housing Coordinator is a highly relational, hands-on role working directly with residents as they navigate the challenges of reentry. This position requires regular presence across housing sites, meaningful daily interaction with residents, and the ability to support both the practical and personal aspects of rebuilding life after incarceration.

This role helps create the structure, consistency, and supportive environment that allows residents to succeed. It is best suited for someone who is comfortable working in dynamic, people-centered environments where no two days look the same.

What This Work Requires

This role involves working alongside individuals who may be navigating significant life challenges, including mental health needs, substance use, conflict, and the stress of reentry after incarceration. Staff are often supporting residents through difficult moments while also maintaining clear expectations, structure, and accountability.

This is not a traditional office-based role. It requires presence, emotional steadiness, sound judgment, and the ability to balance compassion with boundaries in real time.

Key Responsibilities

Build steady, supportive relationships with residents across housing sites
Facilitate restorative circles and group engagement with residents
Meet individually with residents to help set goals, track progress, and proactively address challenges
Support residents with employment searches, appointments, transportation planning, and housing transition plans
Maintain communication with Probation and Parole Officers and service providers when needed
Help create routines, activities, and a positive community environment within the houses
Maintain clear, accurate documentation of resident interactions and progress
Model restorative justice and trauma-informed practices, balancing support with clear expectations and accountability in all interactions
Collaborate with HCRJC staff to ensure strong coordination between housing and restorative programs

Qualifications

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust
Comfort and skill facilitating small groups and meaningful conversations
Organized and detail-oriented with consistent follow-through
Experience or interest in reentry services, housing support, mentoring, behavioral health, and community-based programs
Experience working with individuals navigating mental health challenges, substance use, or crisis situations
Ability to remain calm, grounded, and clear-headed in emotionally charged or unpredictable situations
Familiarity with restorative justice and trauma-informed approaches preferred
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
Flexibility to work occasional evenings as needed
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Compensation and Benefits

$22.00–$24.00 per hour, 40 hours per week
$5,400 annual healthcare stipend, provided as $450 per month after successful completion of a three-month probationary period
Paid time off totaling 40 days per year (includes holidays, vacation, sick, and personal time)
