Guest Services & Café Associate

Department: Hotel Operations / Café
Reports To: Front Office Leadership
Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time

Position Overview

The Guest Services & Café Associate is a hybrid hospitality role supporting both the hotel front desk and café at Otis Harbor Springs. This position moves fluidly between welcoming and assisting hotel guests and providing café service based on the needs and flow of the property.

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable checking in a guest, answering questions about their stay, preparing a quality espresso drink, maintaining the café, and recognizing where their attention is needed next.

This is a highly guest-facing position designed for someone who enjoys variety, takes initiative, and understands that great hospitality extends across the entire property.

Front Desk & Guest Services Responsibilities

Welcome arriving guests and provide a warm, polished check-in experience.
Complete guest check-ins and check-outs and assist with reservation-related needs.
Answer phone calls, respond to guest questions, and provide information about the hotel and surrounding area.
Assist guests with luggage and other reasonable requests as needed.
Communicate guest requests and service issues to housekeeping, maintenance, food & beverage, and management.
Monitor hotel common areas and help ensure they remain clean, organized, and guest-ready.
Assist with guest amenities, packages, deliveries, and special requests.
Anticipate guest needs and proactively look for opportunities to improve the guest experience.
Maintain familiarity with hotel programming, café and lounge hours, local recommendations, and property policies.

Café & Barista Responsibilities

Prepare espresso beverages, coffee, tea, matcha, and other café beverages according to established standards.
Take guest orders and accurately process transactions through the POS.
Provide knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient café service.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the espresso station, café counter, service areas, and guest-facing spaces.
Restock coffee, milk, cups, food items, retail products, and other café supplies throughout the shift.
Assist with opening and closing café procedures.
Maintain proper food safety and sanitation standards.
Develop working knowledge of café products and confidently answer guest questions.
Help create an inviting café environment for both hotel guests and the local community.

Hybrid Role Expectations

This position is intentionally cross-functional. Associates should expect to transition between front desk and café responsibilities throughout a shift depending on guest volume and operational needs.

During café rushes, the position may primarily support beverage service and café guests. During quieter café periods, the associate may transition to front desk coverage, guest communication, property organization, administrative work, or other guest-service responsibilities.

The expectation is not simply to wait at one station, but to actively identify where support is needed and contribute accordingly.

Ability to multitask and shift priorities quickly.
Reliable, organized, and attentive to detail.
Comfortable working independently when necessary.
Willingness to learn both hotel systems and professional café service.
Previous hotel, restaurant, café, retail, or hospitality experience preferred.
Barista experience is helpful but not required for the right candidate.
Ability to remain composed and welcoming during busy periods.
Strong sense of ownership and willingness to take initiative.

Compensation & Tips

This is an hourly, tip-eligible position. Because the role includes direct café service and guest-facing hospitality responsibilities, employees may participate in the applicable café tip pool in accordance with Otis policy and applicable wage and hour requirements.

Schedule

Scheduling may include mornings, weekends, holidays, and other shifts based on hotel and café operations. Shift responsibilities may vary throughout the day based on hotel occupancy, arrivals and departures, café volume, and overall property needs.
