Position Summary
The Turret Operator safely receives, moves, scans, and stores palletized inventory in high-bay racking using authorized material-handling equipment. This role protects employees, racks, equipment, products, and inventory accuracy by completing all inspections, scans, placements, and exception reports in accordance with the approved SOP.
Essential Responsibilities
Complete the documented pre-use inspection before operating a turret truck or other assigned powered industrial equipment; immediately tag out and report unsafe equipment.
Receive assigned inbound inventory and confirm product IDs/SKUs, quantities, pallet condition, labels, and system-directed storage locations.
Scan every required inventory movement in real time and place freight only in the correct approved location.
Safely lift, travel, turn, position, and place pallets in designated rack locations without contacting racks, sprinklers, lights, product, equipment, or building structures.
Confirm pallet size, condition, stability, load center, weight, clearance, and rack-location suitability before lifting or placement.
Inspect inbound freight for overages, shortages, damage, incorrect product, weak pallets, overhang, exposed product, missing labels, and other OS&D conditions; isolate and report discrepancies.
Maintain organized inbound staging and putaway flow so docks and aisles remain clear and inventory becomes available promptly.
Support replenishment, location consolidation, cycle counts, inventory research, pallet moves, and other trained functions when assigned.
Notify the supervisor promptly of blocked locations, full aisles, damaged racking, system discrepancies, unsafe loads, equipment issues, or workload constraints.
Technology and Inventory Control
Use approved individual credentials for Sellercloud, Skustack, Skustack Lens, RF scanners, mobile devices, or other assigned WMS/OMS tools; never use another employee’s login.
Verify the warehouse, product, quantity, source location, destination location, and transaction type for each movement before completing it.
Do not physically relocate inventory without the required system scan or approved documented exception process.
Keep scanners, mounts, batteries, printers, and equipment technology protected, charged, and returned to designated locations.
Perform basic troubleshooting and report unresolved system or device issues with the equipment ID, error message, affected location or product, and steps already attempted.
Safety and Equipment Standards
Maintain current training and written authorization for each powered industrial truck operated.
Work safely at heights of up to approximately 35 feet while using required restraints, gates, controls, and personal protective equipment.
Observe speed limits, intersections, pedestrian right-of-way, travel direction, clearance, load capacity, and safe-distance requirements.
Never climb racking, stand on pallets or forks, bypass controls, use a damaged pallet at height, carry an unstable load, or allow unauthorized riders.
Stop work immediately after rack contact, product impact, equipment damage, a dropped load, near miss, leak, alarm, or other unsafe event; secure the area and notify leadership.
Report all rack strikes and damage immediately, even when damage appears minor; do not continue placing inventory in a questionable location until it is cleared.
Keep aisles, rack bases, staging lanes, fire exits, and equipment parking or charging areas clean and unobstructed.
Cross-Training and Back-Up Coverage
Maintain proficiency in turret operation and complete approved cross-training for related receiving, putaway, replenishment, inventory, or material-handling functions.
Provide back-up coverage only when training and authorization are current and the supervisor assigns the work.
Support peer training by demonstrating the approved process, never shortcuts, and immediately escalating conflicting or unsafe instructions.
Qualifications and Requirements
Required
Prior experience safely operating a turret truck, very-narrow-aisle truck, order picker, reach truck, or comparable powered industrial equipment.
Ability to obtain and maintain Swiss Madison equipment authorization and pass all required practical and written evaluations.
Ability to work confidently and safely at heights of approximately 35 feet.
Ability to read product IDs, rack locations, load information, safety instructions, and system prompts accurately.
Ability to use RF scanners and learn warehouse applications and digital workflows.
Reliable attendance, spatial awareness, sound judgment, attention to detail, and willingness to stop and report unsafe conditions.
Preferred
Experience with high-bay storage, bulky home-goods products, OS&D inspection, inventory control, replenishment, or 3PL warehousing.
Experience with Sellercloud, Skustack, RF-directed putaway, or similar WMS/OMS technology.
Experience inspecting pallets, rack locations, and powered industrial equipment.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
Frequently stand, walk, climb into equipment, bend, reach, turn, and maintain visual focus during equipment operation.
Safely lift, push, pull, maneuver, or team-lift products consistent with company policy and applicable accommodation requirements.
Work around powered industrial trucks, high-bay racking, trailers, docks, warehouse machinery, noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
Maintain the alertness, visibility, hearing, and mobility necessary to operate assigned equipment safely.
Success Measures
Safe equipment operation, complete inspections, and immediate reporting of impacts or defects.
Accurate scans, product quantities, and inventory locations.
Timely putaway and replenishment without avoidable damage, blocked aisles, or lost inventory.
Correct pallet and rack-location decisions with stable, compliant loads.
Reliable attendance, cross-training progress, and support of daily warehouse priorities.
