Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Staff Supervisor is to provide strategic leadership and manage daily operations of the Program’s youth care department. The Staff Supervisor will be responsible for the direct childcare and operation of the program. The Staff Supervisor will maintain a flexible, organized, and efficient work schedule. Provide oversight of Staff performance and disciplinary needs in conjunction with program administration.
This is a full-time position and is required to work at a childcare facility under the supervision of the Program Director, Assistant Program Director, or designee. May be subject to overtime, shiftwork, and on-call duties including evenings, weekends, and holidays for all program related issues/emergencies.
Essential Duties:
- Provide strategic leadership and manage daily operations of the Program’s youth care department.
- Encourage the professional growth of staff through training and development opportunities.
- Develop a staff work schedule: Ensure that the staff schedule is completed and posted; Ensure that all shifts are covered.
- Talk to day and night shift staff on issues of safety and conflicts in the schedule. Ensure that your schedule corresponds to the needs of the program, such as covering the two shifts.
- Supervise the shift leaders in performing the program operations within their shift: Meeting with shift leaders to ensure that the schedule is being followed, and consistent with other shifts; supervise shift leaders as they follow the daily schedule; maintain cleanliness of the facility; administer medication; supervise their shift’s documentation and sign off. Any behavior issues will be supported through coaching. Be present.
- Ensure that the appropriate staff-to-youth ratio is always maintained.
- Collect from the shift leader and review all paperwork that is completed by the youth care staff: Responsible for collecting and reviewing all paperwork such as Daily logs, Night shift logs, Non-Serious Incident Report; Serious Incident Reports; etc. Review and return corrections to shift leaders or staff.
- Provide oversight of Staff performance and disciplinary needs in conjunction with program administration.
- Maintain open and consistent communication with all departments.
Working closely with the Clinical Director on any issues concerning the treatment of any child. Be cooperative and attentive to the concerns brought to your attention about safety concerns of children. Work together in treatment team meeting by being engaged in discussion of each child’s treatment and recommendation.
- Recommend to Program Administrator or designee staff vacations, leave, and/or sick leave. Always inform the Program Administrator of any request of leave from staff that will change the schedule.
- Train and develop all youth care staff in their area of need: Be actively in training staff in handling situations and protocols.
- Ensure that all staff are aware of the population in which they serve.
- Ensure that all staff know their ratios and who they are supervising.
- Supervise the methods used for behavior management.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age at time of hire.
- Bachelor’s degree in the Field of Education or related field prefered.
- Have 3 years of direct childcare experience in a residential environment, or 3 years of direct childcare experience and 2 years of supervisory experience in a residential environment. Any educational or experiential qualifications to be considered as equivalent, in lieu of the above minimums, require prior approval from the Executive Director or designee.
- Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft windows (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule.
- Must have cleared background to be employed in a childcare facility.
- Must have cleared a Tuberculosis test result.
- Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing (English/Spanish).
- Must be approved by ORR.
- Subject to random drug screening.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to obtain and perform Emergency Behavior Intervention Training (EBI)/ Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and First Aid (CPR).
- Must be prepared and physically able to respond with appropriate protocol in a variety of dynamic supervision situations with children 0-17 years in age. In a sudden or emergency event, staff must be at all times physically able to run, jump, lunge, twist, push, pull, apply HOH approved restraint techniques, and otherwise manage or coerce the full weight of an adolescent.
- While it is uncommon, all staff must be physically and mentally able to manage youth who become uncooperative, sick, violent, or display any other form of harmful or threating behavior.
- Bending, stooping, and lifting to 25lbs required to complete daily tasks. Must be prepared to administer emergency First Aid, CPR, or EBI/CPI techniques of youth, regardless of the time of day or hour of the staff’s shift, the size of the youth, or the staff’s level of personal fatigue.
- All staff must be able to maintain clarity of thought throughout the entirety of a shift and be able to respond quickly to duress or circumstances requiring immediate action.
Work Environment:
Work is at youth care facility at which minors receive multiple services, predominantly indoors with occasional outdoor activities. May be required to use professional protective equipment to prevent potential exposure to communicable diseases; working indoor or outdoor in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions; exposure to hazards. Two shifts (day/night) per twenty-four-hour period (Shelter). The YCW schedule will ensure twenty-four (24) hour continuity of supervision and care (Shelter). Work shifts are subject to change to meet the needs of the program.
ORR staffing ratios policy indicates one (1) Youth Care Worker for every eight (8) youth during waking hours, and one (1) Youth Care Worker for every sixteen (16) youth during sleeping hours to provide appropriate supervision of youth.
Employees may be exposed to inclement weather conditions. Position may require staff to eating meals with youth during shift.

Pay: $46,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
