Full Job Description

Superior Skilled Trades is seeking PM SHIFT HOIST OPERATORS to work in Brownsville, TX.

PAY: $22/hr
HOURS: 40+
DURATION: 6+ months
START: ASAP

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Temporary Construction Elevator Operators to safely operate personnel and material hoists on an active construction site. This position is responsible for transporting workers, tools, equipment, and materials efficiently while maintaining strict compliance with safety regulations and project protocols.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and productive job site.

Key Responsibilities

Safely operate temporary construction elevators and personnel/material hoists in accordance with site procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
Transport personnel, tools, equipment, and materials while adhering to load capacities and operating requirements.
Monitor equipment performance and identify potential mechanical issues or environmental hazards.
Assist with the safe loading and unloading of personnel and materials, ensuring all loads are properly secured.
Conduct routine pre-shift, mid-shift, and post-shift inspections of hoist systems, including cables, brakes, controls, gates, and emergency equipment.
Report equipment deficiencies and perform basic cleaning and minor adjustments as needed.
Respond appropriately to alarms, equipment malfunctions, and emergency situations by following established shutdown and evacuation procedures.
Enforce all site safety requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe elevator occupancy practices.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, ground personnel, crane operators, and other trades using two-way radios or other communication devices.
Maintain accurate daily records of inspections, equipment operation, transported loads, incidents, and downtime.
Follow all OSHA, ANSI, and project-specific safety regulations.
Perform basic troubleshooting and coordinate with maintenance personnel when repairs are required.
Comply with site access procedures, weather-related work restrictions, and other project requirements.

Qualifications

Previous experience operating construction personnel/material hoists or temporary construction elevators preferred.
Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
Ability to accurately complete inspection reports and operational logs.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during 8–12 hour shifts.
Ability to climb ladders and access equipment for inspections.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Comfortable working at heights exceeding 200 feet.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including exposure to noise, dust, and changing environmental conditions.

Training

Selected candidates will receive equipment-specific training covering safe operation, daily inspections, and basic troubleshooting. Site orientation will include project safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and operational requirements.

Performance Expectations

Successful candidates are expected to maintain the highest standards of safety, reliability, and professionalism while minimizing equipment downtime and ensuring efficient site operations. Performance will be evaluated through supervisor observations, inspection logs, operational records, and adherence to safety requirements.
