THE POSITION

Apply for this Actuarial Associate Trainee position with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department, Insurance Actuary Review Division. In this structured and specialized trainee position, you will learn and assist with limited and basic life, accident, and health actuarial analysis to ensure that our department meets its statutory and regulatory obligations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position performs and supports actuarial work that ensures insurance rates and procedures follow all Pennsylvania insurance laws. Training is designed to develop you technical competence in the understanding and application of basic actuarial standards and procedures, as well as laws related to the analysis of life, accident, and health insurance rates, rating procedures, rating plans, schedules, and rules. As an Actuarial Associate Trainee, you will perform the following duties:

Actuarial Review: Help compile, analyze, and report large amounts of insurance related data to determine compliance with requirements
Guided Decision-Making: Learn to accurately and effectively review and approve or disapprove life, accident, and health rate and rule filings; help prepare information for administrative hearings and court proceedings
Research Assistance: Learn how to research, understand, and apply PA insurance statutes and regulations to a variety of insurance related matters
Data Call Administration: Help answer formal requests for specific information
Knowledge Development: Expand insurance and actuarial knowledge through seminars, webinars, literature, or other available resources

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to three days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

An associate degree that includes 12 college credits in actuary science, data science, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field; or
Completion of one part of the Society of Actuaries examination or Casualty Actuarial Society examination; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 12 college credits in actuary science, data science, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field.
