THE POSITION
The Institute for Law Enforcement Education (ILEE) is a recognized leader in law enforcement highway safety training, providing instruction and certifications to thousands of officers annually across the state. This is a unique opportunity to share your knowledge and experience, along with industry best practices and current case law, with Commonwealth law enforcement professionals. This opportunity is ideal for retired law enforcement with street cop experience, as well as knowledge and application of Pennsylvania laws. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position provides specialized leadership, instruction, and guidance in law enforcement training aligned with statewide safety initiatives. The role supports training development, delivery, evaluation, and collaboration with agencies across the Commonwealth. As a Police Training Education Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
- Training Delivery: Conduct instructional courses, ensure curriculum adherence, and guide officers through certification requirements
- Curriculum Review: Evaluate research and legal updates to recommend changes to course materials and standards
- Agency Support: Provide technical guidance and assistance to law enforcement programs, including breath test instrument support
- Course Coordination: Manage scheduling logistics, review volunteer applications, and oversee facility approvals for training sessions
- Material Oversight: Maintain accurate inventories of equipment, controlled substances, and course supplies in accordance with policy
- Program Evaluation: Collect and review student feedback to support course improvements and verify completion criteria
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
- Classes are offered Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. A state vehicle will be provided, travel expenses and accommodations will be reimbursed. Overnight stays will also be required. You will be responsible for loading and unloading course materials.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. Must report to the office one day per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer that includes or is supplemented by one year of teaching or formal training experience in law enforcement programs, and completion of 60 college credits.
Other Requirements:
- This particular position also requires you to possess a valid driver’s license which is not under suspension.
- You must possess a certificate of successful completion of a police instructor development course.
- You must possess four years of experience as a uniformed vehicle patrolman.
