Full Job Description

THE POSITION

As a Human Resources Intern with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, you will learn how human resource (HR) supports employees who work in challenging and important public safety roles. This internship gives you exposure to labor relations, staffing needs, and daily HR operations. You will have the opportunity to develop practical knowledge that can help you grow in the HR field. This position offers a valuable chance to contribute while expanding your professional abilities!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position allows interns to gain firsthand experience in human resources while supporting staff across multiple departments in the Department of Corrections. It provides exposure to labor relations, workforce needs, and HR processes that support employees in a demanding setting. As a Human Resources Intern, you will perform the following duties:

Staffing Research: Assist with research involving scheduling, staffing levels, and leave usage
Automation Projects: Support research activities focused on improving HR task automation
Meeting Participation: Attend negotiation meetings, grievance discussions, and disciplinary conferences
Human Resource Exposure: Observe HR processes that support employees working in unique correctional environments
Data Review: Review information related to workforce patterns across multiple departments

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Internship, approximately September 2026 to December 2026
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

You must be enrolled in an accredited college or university.
You must be 18 years of age or older.
You must be working toward a degree in Human Resources, Employee Relations, Business Administration, Government Administration, or another related field.

Additional Requirements:

You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
