Lead Technician – Job Description Position Summary
The Lead Technician is responsible for overseeing daily field installation activities, providing on-site leadership to technician crews, and ensuring all work meets project specifications, safety standards, and company quality expectations. This role performs hands-on installation work while guiding and mentoring Tech I and Tech II technicians. The Lead Technician acts as the primary onsite technical resource, supports troubleshooting efforts, and ensures accurate documentation and communication with Project Managers and the Installation Manager.
Key Responsibilities
On-Site Leadership & Crew Coordination
· Lead daily installation activities for assigned jobs, directing the work of Tech I and Tech II team members.
· Assign tasks based on technician skill levels and project needs to ensure efficient job flow.
· Serve as the on-site point of contact for questions, coordination, and issue resolution.
· Communicate job progress, challenges, and needs to the Installation Manager and Project Manager.
Hands-On Installation & Technical Expertise
· Perform advanced installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning of security and low-voltage systems including access control, CCTV, intrusion, intercom, networking, cabling, and integrated systems.
· Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, including system programming, networking challenges, wiring issues, and configuration errors.
· Ensure proper system functionality and documentation before sign-off or customer handoff.
Quality Control & Workmanship Standards
· Ensure all installations meet company standards, manufacturer requirements, job specifications, and code compliance.
· Conduct quality checks and verify proper device placement, cable routing, labeling, and termination practices.
· Provide corrective direction to technicians when workmanship does not meet expectations.
Safety & Job-Site Compliance
· Enforce safety protocols and company policies on all job sites.
· Conduct safety checks, ensure proper use of PPE, and correct unsafe practices immediately.
· Support a safe and organized job-site environment.
Documentation & Reporting
· Ensure accurate daily documentation including timecards, job notes, installation photos, material usage, and red-lined drawings.
· Assist with updating “as-built” drawings and system documentation.
· Provide clear job status updates to Project Managers and the Installation Manager.
Mentoring & Training
· Train and mentor Tech I and Tech II technicians on installation methods, troubleshooting, tools, safety, documentation, and quality standards.
· Support the onboarding of new field employees.
· Help develop technician skillsets and prepare them for advancement.
Customer Interaction
· Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers, contractors, inspectors, and other on-site personnel.
· Assist with walkthroughs, system demonstrations, and customer questions as needed.
· Communicate clearly and courteously at all times.
Qualifications Required
· 3–5 years of experience in low-voltage, security, electrical, telecom, or similar field installation roles.
· Strong technical knowledge of CCTV, access control, intrusion, intercom, and IP/network-based systems.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
· Proven troubleshooting ability and advanced installation skills.
· Experience leading or mentoring technicians on job sites.
· Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
· Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background requirements.
Preferred
· Manufacturer certifications (Axis, Bosch, Genetec, Honeywell, C-Cure, Milestone, etc.).
· OSHA 10/30 certification.
· Experience in project-driven or construction environments.
· Familiarity with ERP/CRM systems for time entry, documentation, or job management.
· Networking knowledge (VLANs, IP addressing, switch configuration).

Pay: $33.00 - $36.00 per hour
