The Harrisville Children's Center is seeking an afternoon early childhood educator to work either with toddlers OR preschoolers, preferably Monday through Friday although there is some flexibility. Applicants must have some college credits in early childhood education or a related field OR at least 1,000 hours experience and some professional development. Position is approximately 25 hours/week but can be made a full-time position if desired.
Company Overview
The Harrisville Children's Center is a play-based/nature-based program for children ages 6 weeks - 6 years old. Children are outside large parts of every day, whatever the weather. Applicants must LOVE the outdoors and be prepared to engage enthusicastically with the children in an outdoor setting.
We are located in the village of Harrisville, NH; approximately 4 miles from Route 101 in Dublin, NH, 6 miles from Route 9 in Nelson, NH, and about 12 miles from Keene, NH.
Duties
I. To plan and implement an afternoon early childhood program that:
(a) incorporates the seven developmental and learning domains as described in the
NH Early Learning Guidelines: physical, creative expression/aesthetic,
communication and literacy, cognitive, social/emotional, approaches to learning,
and health and safety;
(b) addresses children’s individual needs and interests;
(c) provides children with lots of uninterrupted play and opportunities to participate
in real-life activities, both indoors and outdoors; and
(d) remains consistent with morning program.
II. To guide children’s behavior using techniques such as:
(a) providing positive guidance;
(b) establishing developmentally appropriate rules or limits for acceptable behavior
which are fair, consistently applied, realistic, and designed to promote
cooperation and respect;
(c) acting as a role model to demonstrate desired behavior and problem-solving
skills and redirecting children as needed; and
(d) implementing safe, logical and natural consequences.
III. To supervise the children at all times by:
(a) knowing the whereabouts of all children in your care;
(b) being able to see and/or hear all children at all times; and
(b) ensuring attendance sheet is updated as children arrive and depart.
IV. To arrange an indoor/outdoor classroom environment that:
(a) is safe and developmentally appropriate;
(b) includes natural toys and materials that encourage open-ended play and explorations; and
(c) is kept organized, uncluttered, and welcoming; not over-stimulating with too much to see and hear.
V. To be responsible for the supervision of volunteers and assistant teachers working in
the classroom.
VI. To maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians regarding their child’s
growth and development and overall experience by:
(a) documenting daily in a journal each child’s eating, sleeping, diaper changing
schedule, and a synopsis of the day (infant program);
(b) documenting daily on a white board each child’s eating (toddlers), sleeping,
diaper changing/potty learning (toddler and younger prek programs);
(c) greeting parents/guardians daily in a friendly and respectful way; and
(d) giving parents/guardians written messages (ie. diapers needed) and verbally
sharing information regarding their child’s day.
Pay: $20.00 per hour
