Full Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Provides direct services to residents of Newington and assists with programs at the Senior & Disabled Center. Receives written and oral instructions from the Senior & Disabled Center Director. Establishes priorities with work assignments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides customer services to the public, screens calls, and walk-in traffic. Provides information on department and/or Town services, refers correspondence to the appropriate department or supervisor as needed.
Assists residents in collecting materials and completing applications (paper or electronic) for town, state and federal programs including (but not limited to): Energy Assistance Program, Referrals to Operation Fuel Program, Medicare Savings Program and Renters’ Rebate Program. As well as other applicable financial assistant programs as they become available to residents via town, state and federal government or other social service agencies.
Assists the Assessor’s office with inputting and submitting applications for the Elderly & Disabled Homeowner’s Tax Relief (Circuit Breaker) Program.
Oversees the Meals on Wheels home delivery nutrition program for homebound residents age 60+; assists residents with application materials, oversee daily delivery routes and volunteer schedules, process changes and cancellations.
Assists the Social Worker with maintaining the Information and Referral Center and related informational materials.
Coordinates and implements volunteer and outreach programs as identified by the Senior & Disabled Center Director.
Leads or assists with programs and activities at the Center as needed.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates degree in sociology, social work, or another social science OR two years’ experience providing related direct services to older adults OR any combination of skills and training which provides a demonstrated knowledge of the duties related to the position.

(Note: work experience which includes land survey crew experience and experience in engineering design and preparing cost estimates may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis)

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: A valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to obtain one.
