The Ridge House | Wood-Ridge, NJ
Full-Time | $70,000–$90,000 per year, depending on experience
Expected Hours: 55–60 per week
Schedule: Nights, weekends, and holidays required

The Ridge House is seeking a hands-on Kitchen Manager to help lead the BOH team in a busy, high-volume American restaurant. This is an active leadership role for someone who can work stations, drive prep, lead service, train cooks, control costs, and bring strong daily structure to the kitchen.

The Ridge House is a neighborhood-focused American restaurant in Wood-Ridge, NJ, serving fresh, vibrant American cuisine with modern technique, premium ingredients, and subtle global influences. The menu includes steaks, burgers, ribs, seafood, entrée salads, vegan and gluten-free options, and familiar dishes executed with care and consistency.

This role is ideal for a leader who enjoys being on the floor, setting the pace, solving problems in real time, and building a strong kitchen culture through accountability, coaching, and example.

Menu Direction: The Ridge House menu is established, with creative direction coming from the Culinary Director. This is primarily an operational kitchen leadership role rather than a traditional chef-driven menu development position. The Kitchen Manager’s focus is execution, consistency, systems, team leadership, prep, service, food cost, labor control, cleanliness, and accountability.

We are not looking for a clipboard chef. The right candidate should be comfortable working shoulder-to-shoulder with the team on prep, line execution, expo, cleaning, organization, and service leadership.

Responsibilities

Lead daily BOH operations during prep and service.
Manage and support line cooks, prep cooks, dish, and porters.
Work all stations as needed, including grill, sauté, fry, pizza/salad, prep, and expo.
Maintain high standards for food quality, consistency, timing, cleanliness, and organization.
Own daily prep lists, station setup, line checks, pars, and recipe execution.
Maintain and improve prep systems, station guides, and BOH organization.
Oversee ordering, receiving, inventory, waste tracking, and food cost control.
Support labor management, BOH scheduling, and staffing decisions.
Train, coach, and hold team members accountable to restaurant standards.
Lead high-volume services with urgency, discipline, and composure.
Maintain strong sanitation, equipment care, walk-in organization, and closing standards.
Partner with the GM and Culinary Director on operations, staffing, performance, and financial goals.
Help create a BOH culture built on consistency, respect, speed, cleanliness, and accountability.

Requirements

Minimum 5 years of kitchen leadership experience.
Strong culinary skills and the ability to execute across multiple stations.
Experience leading cooks in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
High-volume full-service restaurant experience preferred.
Strong understanding of prep systems, ordering, inventory, waste, labor, and food cost.
Ability to work 55–60 hours per week.
Availability for nights, weekends, and holidays.
Strong communication, organization, and follow-through.
Energetic, service-driven leadership style.
Detail-oriented approach to cleanliness, systems, and execution.
Spanish-speaking ability preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

$70,000–$90,000 per year, depending on experience and performance
Weekly pay.
