About Us:
True North Plumbing & Drain is a new, family-owned and operated residential service company serving the Greater Lansing area.
We're building this company around a simple idea: create a plumbing company that customers trust and plumbers are proud to work with.
There's a personal story behind True North, too. My grandpa always used to say, “Be a do-gooder.” That's something I've carried with me, and it's a big part of what I want this company to be about. Our True North is pretty simple: do good work, do right by people, and leave things better than you found them.
That applies to how we treat our customers, how we treat each other, and how we approach the work every day.
That means doing quality work, giving our technicians the tools and support they need, listening to their ideas, and trusting good plumbers to do their jobs well.
We're looking for an experienced Michigan Journeyman Plumber who wants more than another service truck and a paycheck.
You'll be joining us early, when your experience and ideas can actually help shape the company. You'll have direct access to ownership, a voice in how we operate, and the opportunity to grow with us as the team expands.
Why Join True North?
This isn't employee #47.
You'll be one of the people helping shape the standards, culture and reputation of True North.
For the right person, this role can grow into a Lead Technician / Field Leadership position as we add trucks and technicians.
You'll have:
· Direct access to ownership
· Modern tools and diagnostic equipment
· A clear path toward Lead Technician and field leadership
· Training and professional development
· A company that values your experience and trade knowledge
· A locally owned company where your work will actually be noticed
· A professional, respectful work environment
· Work/life balance and a long-term career opportunity
The Role
As a Journeyman Service Plumber, you'll be trusted to diagnose and solve residential plumbing problems while taking great care of the homeowner.
You'll see a variety of service and replacement work. One day might involve diagnosing a difficult drain problem; another might involve a water heater replacement, sewer issue, gas piping repair, or a larger residential plumbing project.
We're not looking for someone who simply wants to change parts and move on to the next call.
We want plumbers who like solving problems.
You'll have the time and support to understand what's actually happening, explain it clearly to the homeowner, and recommend the solution that makes the most sense.
As our team grows, you'll also have the opportunity to mentor younger plumbers and help establish the field standards we want True North to be known for.
What You'll Do
· Diagnose residential plumbing problems and determine the appropriate repair or replacement solution.
· Perform service and replacement work involving water heaters, tankless systems, water distribution, DWV, sewer and drain systems, gas piping, water treatment and other residential plumbing systems.
· Use modern diagnostic equipment including sewer cameras, line locators, pressure-testing equipment and other specialty tools.
· Explain problems, findings and repair options clearly and professionally to homeowners.
· Perform clean, professional installations that meet Michigan Plumbing Code and applicable local requirements.
· Maintain a clean, organized and properly stocked service vehicle.
· Document work accurately in our field-service software.
· Mentor and develop apprentices as our team grows.
· Take ownership of the customer experience from arrival through completion.
How We Treat Customers
We don't believe in pressure selling.
We believe a great plumber should be able to walk into someone's home, figure out what's actually wrong, explain it honestly, and give the homeowner good options.
If a repair makes sense, we'll explain why.
If replacement is the better long-term solution, we'll explain that too.
Our job is to educate—not pressure.
We want every customer to feel that the recommendation they received was based on what was best for their home, not what was best for a sales number.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who takes pride in being a plumber.
Someone who notices the details.
Someone who cares about how the job looks when they're finished—not just whether the water is running.
The right person will:
· Hold a valid Michigan Journeyman Plumber License in good standing.
· Have 3+ years of residential service plumbing experience.
· Be confident diagnosing a wide range of residential plumbing problems.
· Have strong knowledge of Michigan Plumbing Code and residential plumbing systems.
· Be comfortable using sewer cameras, drain equipment, pressure gauges and other diagnostic tools.
· Communicate professionally and confidently with homeowners.
· Take pride in clean, quality workmanship.
· Be dependable, organized and self-motivated.
· Be willing to mentor apprentices and help develop the next generation of plumbers.
· Have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
· Be able to pass required background and drug screening.
What Success Looks Like
At True North, success isn't just about how many calls you run.
It's about:
Doing the job right.
Taking care of the customer.
Keeping your word.
Taking pride in your work.
Helping the person beside you get better.
We want to create a company where homeowners ask for our technicians by name—and where our best technicians want to stay because they're proud of the company they’re part of.
The Opportunity
You're joining us at the beginning.
That means there will be plenty to figure out. But it also means you'll have a voice in how we do it.
If you have ideas about how to improve the field operation, take better care of customers, train apprentices, or make the day-to-day work better, we want to hear them.
As True North grows, we expect opportunities to develop for the people who help us build it—including Lead Technician, Field Supervisor and other leadership roles.
We're looking for someone who wants to do great plumbing and wants to be part of building a great company.
If you're proud to be a plumber, we'd like to meet you.
We're not looking for someone who simply wants another job.
We're looking for someone who wants to help build something.
If that's you, we'd love to talk.
