POSITION SUMMARY
Owns the mechanical readiness of the entire Weeks Family Farms fleet — diesel and gasoline, field and highway. This position runs the shop: diagnosis, repair, rebuild, preventive maintenance, and the records that prove it happened.
The goal is simple. Equipment is ready before the season starts, and downtime during the season is measured in hours, not days.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Farm Equipment
– Diagnose and repair tractors, combines, planters, drills, sprayers, tillage, and grain handling equipment
– Perform engine, transmission, final drive, and hydraulic system repair and overhaul
– Service and troubleshoot electrical systems, sensors, harnesses, and machine controls
– Support John Deere Operations Center and precision ag hardware installation, calibration, and fault resolution
– Execute a written preseason readiness inspection on every major unit ahead of planting and harvest
Trucks and Trailers
– Maintain the semi fleet: engines, aftertreatment and DPF systems, air brakes, clutches, suspensions, and drivelines
– Perform and document DOT annual inspections and preventive maintenance intervals
– Service hopper bottoms and other trailers — brakes, bearings, lights, tarps, traps, and structure
– Maintain DOT-compliant maintenance files for every power unit and trailer
Irrigation Engines and Power Units
– Service and repair natural gas, propane, and diesel irrigation power units
– Perform tune-ups, carburetion and ignition work, cooling system service, and seasonal startup and shutdown
– Coordinate with the Pivot Technician on field failures requiring shop intervention
Pickups, Service Trucks, and Shop Equipment
– Maintain light-duty gas and diesel pickups, service trucks, skid steers, and yard equipment
– Keep the service truck stocked, organized, and road-ready for field calls
– Maintain shop tools, air systems, welders, lifts, and hoists in safe working order
Shop Management and Records
– Log all work orders — unit, hours or miles, labor, parts, and cost — in the format used for farm accounting
– Manage parts inventory, filters, fluids, and consumables; place orders and track warranty claims
– Coordinate with dealers on warranty, recalls, and work performed outside
– Maintain safe handling, storage, and disposal of fuels, oils, coolants, batteries, and solvents
– Keep the shop clean and organized to a standard others can work in
Field Support
– Respond to in-field breakdowns during planting, spraying, and harvest
– Perform mobile repair and recovery; make the call on repair-in-place versus tow-in
– Operate equipment as needed during peak seasons
Scope Boundary
This position is the operation’s shop authority on all powered equipment. Field-level pivot repair, irrigation electrical troubleshooting, and underground pipe work route to the Pivot Technician, who escalates to this position when a failure requires shop capability.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
– Three or more years of hands-on diesel and gasoline engine repair, or equivalent technical training
– Proven diagnostic ability across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
– Competence with welding and cutting — MIG, stick, oxy-acetylene, and plasma
– Ability to read and work from service manuals, hydraulic schematics, and wiring diagrams
– Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Preferred
– Class A CDL (subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing program)
– Experience with John Deere, Case IH, and Cummins, Caterpillar, or Detroit platforms
– Familiarity with laptop diagnostic software — Service ADVISOR, JPRO, or similar
– EPA 609 air conditioning certification
– Hydraulic hose fabrication and machining experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Regularly lifts up to 75 lbs; occasionally more with assistance. Extended standing, kneeling, bending, and overhead work. Works under and inside equipment, at heights, and in confined spaces. Exposure to noise, fumes, fuels, solvents, and temperature extremes. Occasional field work in adverse conditions.
