Job Description
The Senior Claims & Risk Manager is responsible for leading the management and resolution of workers' compensation, auto liability, general liability and property claims across Jones Logistics' Dedicated Transportation and Warehousing divisions, while helping reduce the company's overall cost of risk.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this leader partners closely with Safety, Operations, Human Resources, Finance, Legal and external insurance partners to ensure claims are handled effectively, reserves are appropriate, regulatory requirements are met, and lessons learned from claims are translated into actions that prevent future losses.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle of workers' compensation, auto liability, general liability, property claims and freight claims across Dedicated Transportation and Warehousing operations, ensuring timely investigation, appropriate reserving and effective resolution
- Serve as the primary internal resource for significant and complex claims, coordinating litigation strategy, outside counsel, insurance carriers and executive communication
- Partner with the Chief Financial Officer to develop and execute the company's risk management strategy, insurance renewal process, claims reserving philosophy and initiatives that reduce the organization's total cost of risk
- Develop strategies to reduce the company's total cost of risk through early intervention, reserve management, subrogation, fraud detection, effective medical management and timely claim resolution
- Partner with Safety and Operations leaders across both divisions to analyze accidents, injuries and claim trends, identify recurring risk factors and implement corrective actions that reduce future losses
- Evaluate risk exposures related to fleet operations, drivers, warehouse employees, facilities, material handling equipment and third-party property
- Lead regular claim file reviews and loss trend analysis with TPAs, carriers, brokers, legal counsel and other partners
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including claim frequency, severity, reserves, litigation, closure rates, loss trends and overall claim costs
- Coordinate workers' compensation medical management, nurse case management and return-to-work programs to promote appropriate treatment and timely return to productive work
- Partner with Safety and Human Resources to ensure timely reporting, investigation and documentation of workplace injuries, vehicle accidents, warehouse incidents and property damage
- Manage OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping, including OSHA 300, 300A and 301 requirements and all required regulatory reporting
- Ensure claims processes comply with applicable DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, state workers' compensation and insurance regulations
- Manage relationships with TPAs, insurance carriers, brokers, attorneys, medical providers and other claims-related vendors
- Support insurance renewals, audits, loss-control initiatives and broader corporate risk management strategies
- Prepare and present regular reports to leadership highlighting claims activity, reserve development, litigation, OSHA performance, workers' compensation trends and overall loss performance
- Drive continuous improvement by incorporating lessons learned from claims and incidents into future transportation and warehouse safety practices, claims processes and operational standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, Safety, Finance or a related field preferred
- 5+ years of experience managing workers' compensation, auto liability and/or transportation-related claims
- Experience working with or managing TPAs, insurance carriers, brokers and outside counsel
- Strong understanding of transportation, warehousing and workplace risk exposures, claim litigation, reserving and multi-state workers' compensation
- Working knowledge of DOT, FMCSA and OSHA regulations, including OSHA recordkeeping requirements
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret loss data, identify trends and develop corrective actions
- Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and claims/risk management systems
- AIC, ARM, CPCU, WCCA/WCCP or similar industry certifications preferred
Pay: $55,000.00 - $99,760.41 per year
