Job Summary
Bonner Analytical Testing Company is seeking a detail-oriented Gas Chromatography Analyst to join our laboratory team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and analyzing samples using Gas Chromatography (GC) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), reviewing analytical data, maintaining laboratory documentation, and ensuring that testing is performed accurately and in accordance with established methods, SOPs, and quality requirements.Starting pay is $18.00 per hour, with higher compensation available based on relevant experience.
This position is ideal for a laboratory professional who has strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and experience operating and troubleshooting GC and/or GC-MS instrumentation.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare, extract, and analyze samples using GC and/or GC-MS instrumentation.
· Operate, calibrate, maintain, and perform routine troubleshooting of GC and GC-MS systems and related laboratory equipment.
· Prepare standards, reagents, calibration solutions, and quality-control samples.
· Review chromatograms, mass spectra, calibration data, and quality-control results for accuracy and acceptability.
· Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis according to approved analytical methods and SOPs.
· Accurately document sample preparation, instrument runs, calculations, results, maintenance, and other laboratory activities.
· Identify abnormal results, instrument issues, contamination, carryover, and other analytical problems and assist with investigations and corrective actions.
· Follow laboratory quality-control procedures and applicable regulatory or accreditation requirements.
· Maintain organized laboratory records and ensure data integrity and traceability.
· Perform routine preventive maintenance and coordinate instrument service when necessary.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory work environment.
· Follow chemical hygiene, waste-disposal, and laboratory safety procedures.
· Assist with method verification, validation, development, and optimization as assigned.
· Participate in proficiency testing, audits, investigations, and continuous-improvement activities as required.
· Communicate testing issues, instrument problems, and unusual results promptly to laboratory management.
· Perform other laboratory duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
· Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Forensic Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant laboratory experience.
· Hands-on laboratory experience with analytical instrumentation.
· Knowledge of chromatography, mass spectrometry, analytical chemistry, and laboratory quality-control principles.
· Ability to accurately follow written analytical methods, SOPs, and laboratory procedures.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate laboratory documentation.
· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a laboratory team.
· Proficiency with computers and laboratory data systems.
Preferred:
· Previous hands-on experience operating GC and/or GC-MS instrumentation.
· Experience with GC and/or GC-MS data acquisition and processing software.
· Experience with sample preparation techniques such as liquid-liquid extraction, solid-phase extraction, dilution, derivatization, or other applicable preparation methods.
· Experience performing instrument calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and analytical data review.
· Experience working in a regulated, accredited, or quality-controlled laboratory environment.
· Familiarity with applicable requirements such as ISO/IEC 17025, GLP, GMP, or other laboratory quality systems, as relevant to the laboratory.
Knowledge and Skills
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
· Understanding of GC and GC-MS principles and chromatographic separation.
· Ability to interpret chromatograms, mass spectra, calibration curves, internal standards, and QC results.
· Understanding of analytical concepts including accuracy, precision, linearity, sensitivity, detection limits, and measurement uncertainty where applicable.
· Strong documentation and data-integrity practices.
· Ability to recognize and troubleshoot common GC and GC-MS performance issues.
· Ability to manage multiple samples and priorities while meeting laboratory turnaround requirements.
· Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Physical and Work Requirements
· Ability to work in a laboratory environment and follow required safety procedures.
· Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
· Ability to handle laboratory chemicals and biological or environmental samples as applicable to the position.
· Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and perform repetitive laboratory tasks.
· Ability to lift and move laboratory supplies or equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.
