The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, nine-month position as an Instructor of the School of Professional Nursing Practice to begin in August 2026. Job Summary
This nine-month, non-tenure-track position requires teaching undergraduate courses in nursing within the College of Nursing and Health Professions for the School of Professional Nursing Practice. Participation in service activities within the school, college, and university is also required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Teaches undergraduate courses in nursing. Teaching includes the preparation of course materials such as syllabi, course content, course assignments, and handouts; the evaluation and grading of students' class work, clinical/lab assignments, and course/clinical/lab papers; and the maintenance of student attendance records, grades, and other required records.

Holding regularly scheduled office hours to assist students.

Pursue opportunities for development of teaching skills and methods.

Participates in serve at a variety of levels, including school, college, and university

Performs other duties as assign.
Minimum Qualifications
A master’s degree in nursing (MSN) is required.
Doctoral or terminal degree is preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Specialized knowledge of nursing assessment, theory, interventions, and evaluation.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Ability to teach effectively (both online and in traditional settings) at the university level.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from all backgrounds, programs, and colleges.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have professional experience in nursing assessment and care. University level teaching experience in traditional lecture, hybrid, and online formats is desired.
