PREPRESS DESKTOP OPERATOR
Full-Time | On-Site | Hauppauge, New York
ABOUT HAIG GRAPHIC COMMUNICATIONS
Haig Graphic Communications is an established, full-service commercial printer with more than 80 years in business. From our 30,000-square-foot Hauppauge facility, we provide sheetfed offset, heatset web, digital printing, in-house finishing, mailing and fulfillment. Our reputation is built on quality craftsmanship, dependable service and a team-oriented approach to production.
POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Prepress Desktop Operator to review, correct, impose, proof and release customer files for commercial print production. This is a hands-on production position - not primarily a creative graphic design role. The right candidate understands how prepress decisions affect the pressroom, bindery and finished product, and can identify problems before they disrupt production.
Commercial printing prepress experience is required. ECO3 Apogee experience is a strong plus.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Review PDFs and native application files for completeness, accuracy and printability before production.
Preflight and troubleshoot fonts, links, image resolution, color spaces, spot/process colors, transparency, overprint, bleeds, trim size, page count and pagination.
Make production corrections in Adobe Acrobat and Creative Cloud applications while preserving the customer's design intent.
Prepare layouts and impositions for sheetfed offset, heatset web and digital work, accounting for folds, trims, bleeds, gripper, binding, creep and finishing requirements.
Create proofs and perform final checks on separations, trapping, color, marks, imposition and output settings before release.
Output production files and CTP plates; assist with plate bending or tabbing equipment as required.
Communicate file issues and practical solutions to customer service, customers and production personnel while maintaining organized job folders and multiple deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
Hands-on prepress experience in the commercial printing industry.
Strong knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
Understanding of PDF, TIFF, EPS and native files in Mac and PC environments.
Knowledge of offset/digital printing, CMYK and spot colors, separations, trapping, overprint, resolution and color management.
Experience with imposition, pagination, folding, binding, bleeds, trims, gripper and press/finishing requirements.
Strong attention to detail, troubleshooting, communication and deadline-management skills.
PREFERRED / A PLUS
Experience with ECO3 Apogee workflow software.
Experience with CTP plate output, proofing and imposition systems.
Background supporting sheetfed offset, heatset web and digital production.
Advanced color correction, contract proofing, variable-data or mailing file preparation experience.
A bachelor's degree in graphic communications, printing, design or a related field is a plus, but is not required. Equivalent practical experience is valued.
WHY JOIN HAIG
Work across a broad mix of commercial print projects, collaborate directly with experienced customer service and manufacturing teams, and make a visible impact on quality and efficiency.
