Position Summary
The Pile Driver / Welder is responsible for installing footing piles, earth support sheeting systems, and performing structural welding activities on heavy civil and bridge construction projects. This position requires the ability to safely operate around cranes and heavy equipment, interpret blueprints and layouts, perform high-quality welds, and support pile driving operations while maintaining Middlesex's commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
Responsibilities
- Comply with and actively promote all safety policies and procedures, including reporting all accidents, incidents, and near misses to ensure adherence to our Number One Core Value, Safety First in Everything We Do.
- Ensure compliance with all Middlesex safety policies, quality control standards, and the TMC Work Smart Program.
- Install footing piles, earth support sheeting systems, and other foundation elements as directed by the Foreman or Superintendent.
- Perform structural welding on bridge and heavy civil construction projects using approved welding procedures and techniques.
- Read and interpret blueprints, layouts, work orders, and specifications to complete pile driving and welding activities accurately.
- Prepare, fit, and weld structural steel components while ensuring all work meets project specifications and quality standards.
- Utilize welding equipment, cutting torches, plasma arc equipment, and other fabrication tools safely and efficiently.
- Assist with rigging, lifting, and positioning heavy materials using proper rigging practices.
- Work safely around cranes, bridge construction equipment, lifts, and staging platforms.
- Perform initial quality inspections of completed work and correct deficiencies as needed.
- Assist the Foreman in planning daily work activities and determining labor and equipment needs.
- Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Clean, inspect, and properly store equipment at the end of each shift.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support project operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in pile driving, bridge construction, structural welding, or a combination of related heavy civil construction experience.
- Experience working on bridge construction projects preferred.
- Proficient in structural welding, including the use of cutting torches, plasma arc equipment, and welding machines.
- Knowledge of cranes, bridge construction equipment, rigging practices, and forming systems.
- Experience working from lifts, staging platforms, or elevated work areas.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and welding specifications.
- Valid driver's license required.
- OSHA 10 certification preferred.
