Full Job Description

Newly Created Role Description: The Dog Foster / Event Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, and supporting dog foster caregivers; maintaining consistent communication with fosters; and coordinating medical, behavioral, and adoption-related needs for foster pets in conjunction with other adoption center staff members. This role ensures that animals in foster homes receive appropriate care and that foster families feel supported, informed, and connected to Paws4ever’s mission. Additionally, this position leads event coordination efforts to build community relationships, promote adoptable animals, and successfully expand our organizational reach.

This is a part-time position (25 hours per week) with a mix of in-person and remote work. Candidates must be willing to participate in after-hours, weekend, and holiday foster communication through a shared messaging tool. The position reports to the Executive Director and ultimately to the Board of Directors.

Primary Duties

Event Coordination & Program Expansion

Coordinate foster caregivers and foster dogs to attend adoption events
Work directly with vendors to create new and engaging event opportunities

Dog Foster Program Coordination

Develop, launch and promote our new dog foster program
Recruit, screen, and onboard new dog foster caregivers
Maintain regular communication with dog fosters and provide timely support
Match animals to appropriate dog foster homes based on needs and caregiver capacity
Coordinate medical appointments, behavioral support, and adoption logistics for foster pets
Track dog foster placements, returns, and all related documentation

Dog Foster Support & Communication

Serve as the primary point of contact for dog foster families
Assess and triage medical concerns for dog foster pets through phone and text communication with foster parents
Provide guidance on animal care, behavior, and program expectations
Facilitate communication between fosters, veterinarians, and Paws4ever staff
Ensure dog fosters receive necessary supplies, information, and resources
Launch, develop, and promote our new dog foster program

Adoption Coordination for Dog Foster Animals

Support dog fosters in preparing animals for adoption (photos, bios, updates)
Coordinate meet-and-greets, adoption counseling, and transition logistics
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all foster animals

Administrative & Program Support

Maintain organized records of foster animals, medical needs, and program metrics
Assist with developing and updating foster program materials and procedures
Support storytelling and outreach efforts by gathering updates and success stories from fosters

Experience: Candidates should possess experience in the following areas:

REQUIRED – At least 1 year of experience in a medical role within an animal shelter or veterinary clinic; Be comfortable around all types of dogs
PREFERRED – Previous foster experience or staff-related foster experience

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 per hour

The candidate must be at least 18 years old, with a high school diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions. Must have reliable transportation and valid NC driver’s license. Must be able to move/lift 50 lbs., bend frequently, and stand throughout the workday. Must be able to work with cats and dogs of all sizes and temperaments.

Pay: $20.00 per hour
