Full Job Description

Lanakila Pacific helps individuals with cognitive, physical, social, or age‑related challenges build independence and improve their quality of life. Lanakila Meals on Wheels is Hawaiʻi’s largest provider of home‑delivered and congregate meals, offering nutrition, outreach, and support services that enable kūpuna to remain healthy and independent.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Outreach and Activity Coordinator provides direct services to participants through the SNAP Outreach and Title III Congregate Dining programs. This role develops and leads educational sessions and activities, supports participants in accessing benefits, and conducts community outreach. The Coordinator represents Lanakila Pacific by demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and STAR service standards in all interactions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

Associate degree in Education, Communication, Social Work, Marketing, or related field; OR high school diploma/equivalent plus relevant experience.
1 year of experience teaching, training, or facilitating groups (preferably adults).
1 year of direct customer service experience.
Valid driver’s license, clean abstract, and access to an insured vehicle.
Ability to pass TB test, criminal background check, pre‑employment drug test, and CPS/APS clearances.
CPR/First Aid and Department of Health Food Handler Certification (may be obtained on the job).

Preferred

1 year of experience in human services or leading group activities.
Experience in outreach, recruitment, marketing, or sales.
Experience with SNAP or other public assistance programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Position-Specific Duties

Conduct in-person and virtual education sessions on topics such as SNAP benefits, healthy eating, and recreational activities.
Develop and maintain curriculum, presentation materials, handouts, and outreach tools.
Promote sessions, coordinate logistics, and work with supervisor to achieve attendance goals.
Build positive relationships with participants, facility staff, volunteers, guest speakers, and community partners.
Participate in community events, fairs, and outreach activities to promote services.
Screen applicants, complete intakes and assessments, and assist participants in applying for and maintaining eligibility for services.
Provide ongoing follow‑up and referrals to additional support services as needed.
Complete required reports, attendance logs, activity summaries, and outreach documentation accurately and on time.
Assist with group sessions, verify attendance, recruit guest speakers, and support meal delivery as needed.
Address participant questions, concerns, and grievances professionally.
Promote all Lanakila Meals on Wheels services through phone, email, and in‑person communication.

Other Duties

Provide backup support for program operations and special events.
Follow safety procedures, food‑handling standards, and organizational policies.
Support departmental projects, represent the organization at events, and assist with fundraising activities.
Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate cultural competence in all interactions.
Participate in required training sessions and staff meetings.

WORKING CONDITIONS / HOURS:

Scheduled Monday–Friday for 4-hour shifts; occasional evenings, weekends, and Thanksgiving/Christmas may be required to meet program needs.
Work performed in office, classroom, community settings, participant homes, and meal production areas including walk‑in refrigerators/freezers.
Frequent travel to community sites, outreach events, and participant locations.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Strong initiative, judgment, and adaptability to changing needs.
Ability to work independently and under time pressure.
Effective communication and teamwork with diverse individuals and groups.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Frequent: Standing, walking, sitting, lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs, handling/pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, hearing, talking, and travel.
Occasional: Lifting/carrying 26–50 lbs, climbing stairs/ladders, balancing.
Rare: Lifting over 50 lbs, working in low‑light conditions.
