Full Job Description

Title: Computer Technician

Supervisor: Technology Director

Start Date: TBD

Salary: CCBOE Salary Schedule

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Job Goals:

To provide technical support for computer hardware and software.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or Technical College graduate preferred.

Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

Experience with Microsoft Desktop and server operating systems.

Experience with Chromebooks and Google Workspace.

Proficiency in technical reading, writing, and oral communication skills.

Knowledge of applications including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, Internet, and networked applications.

Experience with basic network troubleshooting.

Experience with hardware and software troubleshooting.

Experience in hardware configuration and upgrades.

Experience in software installation and configurations.

Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.

Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.

Supports computer installation, maintenance, and repair at all schools and the central office.

Completes work orders on priority basis.

Maintains maintenance and repair records.

Installs server and client based applications.

Performs data security and backup procedures.

Assists network administrators, technology integration facilitators, and school technology coordinators as required.

Supports technology training activities as required.

Assists with maintaining schools’ technology inventory and technology department spare parts inventory.

Performs hardware and software upgrades; this includes downloading security patches and monitoring anti-virus software.

Supports the test and evaluation of new technologies as directed.

Provides e-mail and phone support.

Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.

Models and maintains high ethical standards.

Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.

Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.

Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.

Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.

Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.

Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.

Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).

Terms of Employment/Salary: As established by the Board and applicable state law.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
