Full Job Description

Overview

The Laboratory Services Specialist is a full-time role (32 hours per week)

responsible for both hands-on phlebotomy and comprehensive lab coordination.

This position ensures seamless integration of lab services within the clinic, supporting

timely diagnostics, patient follow-through, and efficient communication with labs,

pharmacies, and providers.

Core Responsibilities

1. Phlebotomy & Clinical Support

Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws
Conduct PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) blood draws
Maintain proper handling, labeling, and preparation of specimens
Follow all bloodborne pathogen safety protocols and clinical standards
Maintain cleanliness and organization of lab and draw areas

2. Lab Coordination & Integration

Import and manage lab orders within the EMR and lab platforms
Monitor and track completion of all ordered labs
Track down missing or delayed lab results from external lab companies
Review patient schedules 1–2 weeks in advance to confirm labs are completed prior to appointments
Ensure all lab results are properly documented and accessible for provider review

3. Patient Communication & Recall Systems

Conduct patient recall outreach for due or overdue labs
Follow up with patients to ensure labs are completed on time
Provide clear communication regarding lab instructions, preparation, and timelines
Support patient questions related to lab logistics

4. Administrative & Operational Support

Monitor incoming faxes for lab results, prior authorizations, and related documentation
Manage lab- and pharmacy-related phone calls and emails
Coordinate UPS pickups and shipping for lab specimens
Maintain organization and accuracy of lab-related records and workflows

5. Schedule Readiness &; Workflow Support

Review upcoming schedules to ensure patients have completed required labs
Identify gaps in lab completion prior to visits and take proactive action
Support overall clinic flow by preventing delays related to missing labs

Role Expectations

Maintain a high level of accuracy in all lab handling and documentation
Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills
Communicate clearly and professionally with patients and team members
Act proactively to prevent delays in care or breakdowns in workflow
Support clinic efficiency through consistent follow-through

Qualifications

Experience with phlebotomy preferred (or willingness to train)
Experience in healthcare, lab coordination, or administrative support preferred
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Compensation & Schedule

32 hours per week, 8:00-5:00pm M-Th - 1 hour lunch

Commission and Performance Incentives

Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32.0 per week
