Full Job Description

The Development Director is responsible for working with the President/CEO, Board of Directors, and Development Committee to plan and coordinate all aspects of fund development for HumanKind Ministries. They will expand and diversify revenue by integrating existing sources of support with the creation of new strategies that increase donor participation. The Director will lead resource development strategies including managing portfolios of current major donors, building new business development strategies, creating and implementing new development plans to improve donor retention, increase donor engagement, and broaden our base of support.

This position is part of the senior leadership team and reports directly to the President/CEO. This role will supervise and manage the Development team. They will provide leadership and oversight on all development initiatives, volunteerism, and special events to include responsibility for developing and managing major gifts/donors and identifying, organizing and managing fundraising activities with a focus on new opportunities to obtain ongoing and increased support from corporations, public and private organizations and individuals.

Compensation includes a base salary of $60,000–$80,000, with additional earnings through performance-based incentives tied to individual and organizational goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Creating, implementing, and managing major gifts and planned giving programs to meet budget expectations

· Developing strategies for solicitation, and coordination of the solicitation by other affiliate staff, board of directors, and volunteers, as appropriate

· Cultivating past and current major donors to enhance their relationship with HK and increase the likelihood of continued contributions

· Overseeing and supporting the implementation and execution of all strategies for the HK Annual Fund, including through fundraising and special events

· Collaborate with the Leadership team to co-manage Operation Holiday, Humanitarian Awards and other fundraising events

· Providing direct supervision and performance management for the Development team with an emphasis on development and fundraising:

o Working to create and manage annual plans to meet or exceed yearly financial goals

o Creating plans to broaden HK’s fundraising through planned giving, solicitation of bequests, and endowment programs diversifying revenue streams

o Identifying and pursuing new sources of funding, managing a portfolio of top annual gift prospects, and conduct local personal visits for solicitation, stewardship and cultivation.

o Working to grow and improve upon special events, including cost management, committee productivity and increased participation

· Helping to identify, review and apply for various grants

· Identify and manage a portfolio of major gift donors

· All other duties as assigned by the President/CEO

Qualifications, Expectations, and Competencies

Qualifications

Required:

· Bachelor’s Degree in related field

· 5+ years’ experience in fundraising, sales, nonprofit management and community relations, volunteerism, and special events

· 2+ years’ experience in securing five and six figure gifts

· 2+ years’ experience with Microsoft Office Suite

· Valid Kansas Driver’s License

Preferred:

· 5+ years’ experience in meeting and exceeding financial goals

· 5+ years’ experience in working with diverse communities

· 5+ years’ experience with fundraising campaigns and mail appeals

· 5+ years’ experience with a fund-raising and constituent relationship management system

· Experience with Raiser’s Edge

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

The position is regularly required to make use of close vision to read correspondence and prepare reports and other appropriate communications. They must hold a valid driver’s license with the ability to drive in order to attend community meetings, and offsite events, and transport donations made by volunteers or event supplies. Additional hours outside the typical work day, including weekends, may be required. This position will also be required to assist in the physical set-up and preparation for special events and activities. Must be able to lift 25lbs with or without assistance.
