About the Position
We are looking for a professional, safety-focused Checkout Pilot / Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) to support our aviation operations at Hayward Executive Airport (HWD).
This position is ideal for an experienced pilot or instructor who enjoys working with other pilots, conducting aircraft checkouts, maintaining high operational standards, and providing professional flight instruction when required.
We are specifically looking for someone mature, dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable making independent go/no-go and pilot-proficiency decisions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct aircraft checkout flights for pilots
- Evaluate pilot proficiency, judgment, aircraft handling, and operational knowledge
- Conduct pre-flight and post-flight briefings
- Provide flight and ground instruction as required
- Conduct flight reviews and other proficiency training when authorized and applicable
- Ensure pilots understand aircraft limitations, procedures, checklists, and company operating policies
- Maintain accurate checkout and training records
- Identify pilots who require additional training before being approved
- Promote a strong safety culture
- Assist with aircraft standardization and operational procedures
- Report aircraft discrepancies or safety concerns promptly
- Maintain professional communication with pilots, customers, and management
Minimum Qualifications
- 500+ hours total flight time
- FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate — Airplane Single-Engine Land
- Current FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate
- Current FAA medical certificate as required for assigned duties
- Strong knowledge of FAA regulations and general aviation operations
- Strong communication and decision-making skills
- Professional and safety-focused attitude
- Comfortable evaluating pilots and declining a checkout when proficiency standards are not met
- Reliable transportation to Hayward Executive Airport
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- 750+ hours total time
- CFII
- Experience conducting aircraft checkouts, flight reviews, IPCs, or proficiency flights
- Experience in technically advanced aircraft
- Bay Area flying experience
- Familiarity with Hayward Executive Airport and surrounding Bay Area airspace
- Experience with rental, flying club, or flight-school operations
